Where's the best spot to "tap" into the engine for a water temp. guage installation? Of course I don't mean tap...literally...but I know I'm gonna have to tee in somewhere...where's the best spot?...PLEASE BE SPECIFIC!!!

Thanks!

come on guy's!!!

someone has-to have installed a water temp. guage sometime!

Thanks...

John....I have not installed a water temp gauge...but.....

What does the AutoMeter gauge come with?

Wires to splice in to the stock/factory temp sender?

Or

A whole Brass sending unit that looks like it needs to be screwed into the intake?

just went out and looked at mine...

i screwed my sender into the front of my intake,i think i took out the factory idiot light sender and used it's spot.it's just below where your radiator hose clamps to your water neck, just to the left of your cam sensor, pointing towards the grille.

whatever you do don't take out the coolant temp sensor,it's smaller and farther back on the intake, and points straight up.

hope this helps.

finally...:D

Herb, I did ups tracking, and the guage is gonna be here tomm...so I don't know for sure...but it is electric...does that mean that I can just splice into that w/o anything short circuiting?

WFO, thanks!...I did notice the sender pointing up, and started to unscrew it, but thought that I should ask first, and I'm glad I did! I do have one question though...how much of a coolent is gonna come out when I take the sender out of the intake, and is it OK to just leave the wire that was attached to the idiot light off, or do I have to put in a tee to re-attatch the sender? (ok...so that was 3 questions :D )

Thanks fellas!

no,you will need to use the sender that comes with the gauge.

it's probably gonna spill a bit.your thermostat will be closed so your radiator hose won't drain, but i think whatever is above the level of the sender will(heater hoses?) .be prepared:).

just snip the connector off of it and tuck it in somewhere.all it is is the idiot light in the dash that comes on when your engine is melting down

Temperature sensor location

On the 84/85 intake there is a boss next to the idiot light switch/sensor that could be tapped for the gage sender.

Hopefully the above picture is worth a thousand words.
