glide coat primer starting with 220 then 320 then 500. Base coat is on and drying. Looks wavy.

For ultra straight I block the first priming session with 180 till I see some slight high spots (epoxy primer of different color showing). Then reprime and sand out with 500 and seal after . To fine of paper at first does not cut as straight.

Good morning. Looking at it this morning it would appear the waves are an optical illusion. The base I put on yesterday has dried with what I will call wet and dry spots. I am going to apply a 3rd coat today and try to apply with perfection. Perhaps the base will go on uniform and what appears to be waves will be gone. Thanks to all who are responding.

Well it did work. The waves are gone. Applied a 3rd and 4th coat. I am on cloud 9. At this moment I have 2 coats of clear drying. Pictures to come. It is snowing today. I will pull her out in the sun in the next day or two. Snap a few and post them.

be careful painting in the cold and sending out to the sun. You will see shrinkage. If you have this wave that is called urethane wave and the way to get rid of it is plenty of clear coat, and use a block to sand. Mine is smooth as glass as soon as I learned how to make the sanding flat.

Good point. I found that I had not applied my base wet enough to have the flat appearance, do to the dry overspray. Fixed that. Today I sand and buff my clear.
