So today was a slow day at work and around 2 o'clock I told my service manager I had stuff to take care of at home. For the last week or so I've had my car apart waiting to finish up my F-body radiator install, mainly needed to mount my external coolers and then put the grill back in, etc. So I got home quick and got to work before this supposed severe weather (9:30pm now and still no rain  )

I had been out on my driveway for an hour or so already and about ready to fire the car up when I see a Chicago cop car slowly roll past my driveway. Was going so slow I knew he was staring at the car. Put my extension cord away, turn around and see the cop car backing up and moving towards the curb to park. My mind starts racing wondering if I've done anything stupid on the street lately, wondering if there's been reports of some obnoxiously loud black car roaring through the neighborhood. I keep minding my own business cleaning the garage and the officer comes walking up my driveway. I see him eyeballing the car and say "how's it goin?".

He starts talking to me about the GN he used to have and I breathe a sigh of relief! :D

He noticed my drag radials and told me about the time he was coming back from Union Grove (drag strip) and it started to rain and his car did a 360 on the expressway because of his tires.

He was telling me about someone he used to know with a 10 second GN and I told him "these days guys are running 8's and 9's".

I thought he'd start asking me if the car was street legal and here he goes telling me how he had nitrous on his!!

Anyways I just thought it was funny because my heart was POUNDING until I realized what was going on. These cars get attention whether you like it or not!

I got pulled over by a Park Ridge cop years ago.

He just wanted to see my car, and tell me about the frame off resto
he was doing to his. We chatted for a long time on the side of the road.

Next time I saw him, I slowed down to make sure it was him, and make
sure he knew who I was, then stood on it as I passed by!
He didn't pull me over...:p

chicago cop scared me

years ago when i lived on the southside, i was going down damen ave when a chicago cop got behind me and threw the headlights on  , i didnt know what he wanted until he told me he was a GN owner too. he told me his was smoking real bad and if i knew what was wrong . blown turbo was my 1st thought. i ended up giving him the phone number to street performance. the cop was cool and we talked for about 20 mins. about GN's.

good story.. kinda scares ya for a second ... Melissa was goin to work with the GN with the BIG 325/50/15 MT drag radials.. She heard a noise she didn't like so she pulled over and was waiting for me  Cop came up and asked her if everything was ok .. "she" said ya "Dad" is on his way. as he was walking back he stopped and looked at the tires  "Damm that car looks mean" is all he said with a big smile

Turbo6Chicago-

good story! made me laugh. I've had a similar experience many years ago.

not all cops are bad. my buddy and his brother are both cops down in Houston, Tx. I hear all kinds of stories about hot-rodders and street racers from them. They have both rolled up on guys doing some back-street "test and tune" and actuall hung out and helped them!

Now thats the way it should be. No man with a good car should be justified.;)

one day I made a right and they just put up signs about no right turn... As I turn the corner theres a unch of cops w the cones out.. The one cop signals me to pull over.. You know why i stopped you??? My crack winshield?? Well that too.. You made an illegal right.. I will let you go if you can tell me about this car.. I smile in disbelief and he starts asking how much boost etc.. started tellin me he did his own porting on his 5.0.. Keep in mind about 2" high across my back window reads PONYS ARE FOR LITTLE GIRLS (with the horse galloping) Another cop approaches and sez did ya read his window??? As my face turned pale (now i now im gettin nailed) he said yea... He said make no more turns here and take it easy..

Hehe, usually when I see a cop pull up, I'm getting prepared to tell him off. No good cop experiences here except for one that pulled me over to look at my car. But then again, I don't like cops. I won't ramble on, I'm too old (30) for that now. But something having to do with ear popping harleys never getting tickets for their pipes yet me being harrassed all the time for exhaust so many times.

Got pulled over for doing 50 in a 40 zone
Couldn't find the current insurance card
Cop said with a car like this I know you have insurance and let me go:smile:

For the record that wasn't me.

I have been known to stop GNs to BS but also to make sure its not stolen.

I passed an undercover cop car at about 80 on the freeway, right when I saw the CA exempt I slowed down but I knew it was too late. When I was at his window he just glanced at the car for a minute, gave me a thumbs up and just just sped away. kinda cool.
