There was a bad accident when a T-Type was totaled in Phoenix yesterday during the WCN.

Many of us find it fun and exciting to modify our cars for street and strip performance, but usually only put emphasis on performance, and none, or not enough, on safety.

Hopefully this example of what can happen on the street as well as the strip to when very fast speed is involved in a bad situation will make others aware of what can, and does, happen when things go wrong.

This brings up memories of Odell's wreck at BG. A well built car can save your ass for sure.:) Glad to see that Scott's still around and this serves as a reminder to those guys and gals that don't think safety equipment is needed to run a fast car on the street.

Any updates on his condition?
Any word as to the cause of the crash, something break? or tires breaking loose going into 3rd etc.
I would think there must be video of it, Any clues ?

Seeing that thread made me think again about my decision to not put a rollbar in my car. My combo may get me into the low 11's, but I'm not going to go to the track much at all. Now I'm thinking just to do it for an all around safety factor.

That would be a smart decision Mike. :)

If done properly, a 5 point bar with a removable driver's side bar would hardly be noticed if done properly in a GN.

Also, if it needed to be removed at any point, it could be done easily with only a small traces of it ever being there so it should not de-value the car at all.

Prayers out to Scott for a speedy recovery.

Has the cause of the accident been found? Broken axle? HG? Track??

Go to the Yellow Bullet link found at the bottom of the thread in the Southwest section and you will find info on how the crash happened.

He was told by the Speedworld tech director that he was limited to go no faster than 10.0

ya mean this..

"I would like to add some info about this incident and how it unfolded.

When Scott went through tech at Speedworld, he was told to run no faster than 10.0 since he had no NHRA license and his car did not have a certified cage or equipment. It is normal for tech to set limits, and they DO monitor those that exceed them.

The track and traction was good as I made a 10.0 pass earlier with no issues and others had gone faster.

This was Scott's first pass with a new engine [and paint job]. He has run in the 9's for a few years in Las Vegas, especially on "street nights" at the Strip.

Scott was in the left lane and a GN in the right on this pass. At about 1000' the GN driver saw him loose traction and Scott let off the throttle. When straight he got back into the gas and veered right towards the GN and corrected which caused him to go left and directly into and over the barrier past the finish line.

His car then went end-over-end about 3-4 times before landing on its wheels. No one was in a position to see the rolling as the dust was too thick.

We were all upset about this tragedy, and wish Scott the best in his healing and recovery. "

For those that dont want to dig.

So getting back into the throttle caused the problem after he lifted. Did the car get out of the groove and then he tried peddling it back in when it swerved?
