Weatherstripping

I live in Vegas, and its hotter than the 3rd level of hell right now. It has made me take a close look at my weatherstripping. I had to have some work done about 8 months ago at a local bodyshop and I asked the guy about changing out the weatherstripping. He told me to not bother, cause it will never line up right and you will never get the doors n such to properly align.

Well, this guy seemed to be a real jerk! I dont know about taking anything he said to heart. Hell, he could barely match my paint even with a paint matching gun. So I am asking the board. What do you think? Its about $700 for the parts, then finding a bodyshop that wants the job. THe Vegas heat is killing them even with protectant. I want them replaced, but not if its going to make it worse than it is...

all of the stripping is availible from gm still . i have all of it and going to do a frame off this winter and some of the summer its not hard. pull off the old stripping, get all of the glue and debris out clean the track and get the 3m weather striping glue in the orange box and install on the upper doors. for the rest it just clips into holes in the doors and under the hood the trunk you will have to glue down also. will be an afternoon job

Any water leaks or wind noise? Is it ripped or rotten? If it is intact, use a little silicone paste (lube) to keep them soft and supple. New ones will be of little improvement if the old ones are still working well.

What the guy said has some basis of fact. The old stuff is worn and compressed. New rubber will provide more interference on the glass and doors. Not saying you will have problems, but it wouldn't be a big suprise if you have to adjust the doors and glass to fit with the new weatherstrips.

I just did my door seals (GM parts) roof rails and window scrapers last month. It all seals well, I just need to adjust the window a little to stop a whistle near the front corner passenger side. The biggest pain is digging out all the old glue and debris from the roof rails. Also, make sure the roof rail seal is tucked in right. The door will "pop" open if it is not Use the ole comparison check with the otherside.
