I will be heading with my wife an d 3 kids. Looking for fun attractions for the kids and nice places to eat.

Moe's (or Mo's?) BBQ in Cedar Park (NW on Hwy 183 North).
THE best hamburger I've ever had.
I'm sure others will chime in.

Check out the Capitol building. Farther south on Congress (across the bridge) is some good joints to eat and shopping and boutiques and stuff for the lady. If you get drug into that get a piece of pizza from Homeslice down the sidewalk from the Continental Club. Duck in there to get a beer while the chickie is shopping. also in that area is the congress st bridge, where the largest urban bat population lives and it's a spectacle to watch them fly out at dusk. But they are in Mexico for the winter. Close to that is Ironworks if you want some GOOD PORK RIBS. The rest of their BBQ is good, but it's the ribs (pork) that set them apart. Also close to that is Barto Springs Rd that is host to many of ATXs local restaraunts. Chuy's for tex mex, Romeo's for awesome Italian, Threadgill's for gooood southern home style cooking (get the pecan crusted chicken and scalloped potatos!!!) and a few others.
Duckie tours hosts amphibious vehicle tours of historical spots (never been, always had my own tour guides  but they look like fun.) If you stroll past the Driskall Hotel on 6th check it out, it's awesome. Farther down 6th (and 4th, 5th, 7th) is where the downtown nightlife is. Depending on what you are into, I could give you the DL on the area. There are a million little holes in the wall that rule, I'll come back and post on that if I think of some good ones.

And areas to stay, I'd stay south/centralish off 35 for easy access. Between Oltorf and Koenig. If Austin Motel on Congress has a vacancy, try that. It's awesome. Small, but nice and every room is designed different. But you usually have to book in advance.

north austin the domian area , mount bunnell, county line bbq on 2222 also if you like asian food in china town on n.lamar
