How much does a 3.8 or 4.1 litre short block weigh? Additionally, how much do "515" iron cylinder heads weigh?

got this info from another board

Turbo Buick LC-2 (3.8) motor weight

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thought some of you might be interested in this. I weighed my motor complete minus the tranny, converter and starter. It weighed 420-lbs with everything just (including wiring harness and ECM)as you would sit it in a Regal. I weighed the 200-4R seperately w/ a 10-in non-L/U converter. It weighed in at 162-lbs. Add those two together and you have a grand total of 580-lbs for the T/R drivetrain. I am going to weigh the LS-1 motor and wiring harness that I have tomorrow sometime. I will post those results as well. Cheers !!!

420 LBS for an entire motor...wow I thought it would be around 500 LBS. Do you have an idea on how much the iron heads weigh?

That's probably about right. I lifted only the short block my engine stand w/o the heads and it was a hand full/bulky. Next time I'll use a cherry picker, but at the time it was occupied with the new engine :) I won't be attempting to do that again :D Eithercase, I think the heads weigh about 65 -75lbs each.
