Hi everyone, I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

Had a quick question, what would you all say a GN/Regal/Ttype front clip weighs? I just got a call from the shipping company, and they're quoting me 900 pounds...nine...hundred...I pulled the front clip off of my car and theres no way in hell they weigh HALF that much. Jay from JaysGN is telling me it's all crate, but i've done woodworking for a number a years, and I can't see it weighing 500 pounds unless it's made of oak, or it's a foot thick.

Any help is greatly appreciated

I read somewhere on here that the GN engine (longblock with turbo mounted) was around 420 lbs. by itself.

Do you mean the *dog house* or full front clip. To some the front clip is from the firewall foward, ie with the frame rails, suspension etc., minus engine.

Dog house is all the external sheet metal from in front of the firewall foward.

A real front clip, and crating might get to 900 lbs.. Gotta get clear maybe on what's being discribed.

Well I was told no suspension or any of that, just the fenders, hood, front bezel with grill, bumper, bumper fillers, pretty much the dog house, as you described.

Is the shipping company taking me for a ride here?

Little update, got the crate today. Seems the crate itself weighed twice that of the parts. He overdid it by a long shot, and whats worse, he didn't even give me my bumper and grill...or my ttop handles....

I figured I'd bump this with a little info.

Thank you jay for building a 700 pound crate to ship a 200 pound clip.

Shipping came out to 1400, 1400 dollars. I paid less to ship my CAR.

Holy Smokes!!!!

I got a quote on shipping a whole 1957 Chevy COE (Cab Over Engine) truck from Kansas to North Carolina and it was only gonna cost me between 1200 and 1500 bucks!!!

Maybe you should have found a truck to buy there as well and had the front clip thrown in the back. Shipping the whole truck with the parts in back might have been cheaper!!!

Russ:cool:

Big Stu, sure did, thing was huge!

Russell, sounds like it would have been a good idea

Jays responce was "People need their parts quickly, apparently you don't know much about the auto repair business"

Needless to say, he won't be getting my business anymore.
