I am a bit new to this stuff, so bare with me...

Car:

87 GN w/t-tops
block bored .030 over
lightweight pistons and wrist pins
218/218 hydraulic bump stick
adjustable pushrods
ported stock heads
36# injectors
2.75 exhaust
3" DP
stock turbo
TT 5.7 chip 93 octance
HD adjustable waste gate
RJC boost controller
billet adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Scanmaster 2.1
15# boost
Last night I checked the fuel pressure and noticed it was @ 32psi with vacuum @ idle, I thought was a bit low, but need to recheck tonight with the vacuum off

Today I do a full pull down the highway so I can get some solid numbers with the Scanmaster.
I hit recall and got 675 O2 and 2.8 retard with 93 octane at 15psi of boost

Anyone help me decipher that?

At 15lbs of boost what is your FP at? Should be 1lb of FP for every lb of boost. 675 O2 is very lean. Check your FP at idle with the vac off and report back. I don't pay much attention to KR under 3.0. Some people may differ though.

FP was 38 without vacuum. I set it to 43 per TTs instructions and took it for a quick spin

Seems a bit more responsive, but got 775 O2 and 5.6 retardation :D

Does the FP need to come up more?

Leave the Fp alone and add some fuel via the scanmaster. If you get Knock/retard again, press and hold both buttons on the scanmaster and see at what MPH the knock/retard happened.

Leave at 43, check for when the knock happened as stated could be at the shift.

Also make sure your FP gauge is correct check it against another gauge. These gauges take a beating and are notorious for being off.

Its brand new. I was looking at getting one for the hood, any recommendations? But nonetheless, I don't recall the retard jumping when the car shifts, it climbs up to it.

Anyways, it seems to start to fall flat and it no longer pulls, so I wonder if the fuel pressure is falling or staying static? Would adding fuel via the chip be a valid test?

I bought one from Summit for the hood. If your at 43 + 15lbs you should be at 58lbs of FP if not your pump is probably failing. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? How old is the pump and is it hot wired?

Changing the fuel via the chip? I'm not the smartest guy in the world but I would say change it at the Regulator if your going to make a change. Maybe someone else will chime in that knows more.

Fuel pump was supposedly new when I purchased the car with a Walboro 255 or 240 and supposedly hotwired, I can confirm with previous owner.

You need to see your FP under boost, 675 O2's is way to lean.

Turning the boost down yeilded less knock, so I wonder if it is the "octane" or the gas I get?

uy her a nice set of tools for christmas and you will be good to go LOL ! :)
No kidding.

I think the previous owners intention was to build the car, but due to some circumstances, he just threw the stock stuff back on.

We were discussing that last night.

I agree 100% that's probably exactly what happened that would make a lot more since with the cam selection. And I only mentioned it because I hada 212/212 in mine and pulled it out and put a smaller one in car seems happier I know at some point when over 500+ lift there's a mod needed done to the heads to accommodate the extra lift ( can't remember exactly I'm getting old ) :)

Prev owner is pretty knowledgeable and I think his intention was to make this car fly.

We were discussing that we maybe close to maxing out the injectors and if we go larger then a larger turbo then IC then Tc. So he said am I prepared to go that route?

Or run race fuel and turn the boost up:)

Define "understanding wife"? Is that classified as not telling her anything because it goes in one ear and out the other?
