I was messing around on the highway and didn't have it in overdrive, pulled off the highway and now it has a God awful knock. Does anyone know if I can get a bottom end kit for a quick, cheap fix?

threw a pushrod??
i hate that sound........... makes you want to whither up and die......i did that on my monte carlo when it had the 350 in it

It wasn't the fact that you were not in OD - unless you were going ~115+ for a decent amount of time. It was the fact that you were driving around with a used turbo and wastegate without knowing what boost you were running, with a stock fuel pump and all stock parts.

On the bright side, that engine couldn't have lasted much longer anyway if it couldn't handle the little bit of driving you've been doing since you put tags on it.

It sounds awful - I think you spun a bearing. Nasty knock and a metal-on-metal screeching at idle.

So what are the options? Does it render the whole thing junk? It's a 115k mile 100% stock body with some rot, interior looks like a 114k mile interior and now the motor is toast.

Could we get away with a cut crank and bearings?

Jim (darkred87T's brother)

It might not be that bad of a job if I can just pull the motor, get the crank cut, new mains and rods and throw it back in.

well, hey, at least the interior doesn't show its age
 That has to be the sickest sound ever.

You guys are always so optimistic about miles. Try 215,000 miles and the interior looks like 114,000. :yup:

Irregardless of how many miles it has on it......yes, you can do that. Pull it, and freshen the bearings, have the crank cut, get some ARP head bolts, new timing chain and whatever else needs to be replaced. That's all I do. Why give some machine shop thousands of dollars so you can blow it up again. It's never their fault.

Ooops....that was a typo. Like I can tell the difference between a 115k mile interior and a 114k mile interior. It's not really that bad inside - just dirty.

Thanks for all the replies. I talked to my brother earlier - he's going to stick with it. He doesn't have a lot of bux tied up in it (relatively speaking) so we're going to yank the motor out and see what we've got.

Thanks again,
Jim
