Did they build some with moon roofs and t-tops. I know the picked the donor GN's off the line for GNX's, were they all fully equiped or was there alot of differnt options some of them had.

If I remember right there was one moonroof GNX that was built for one of the buick executives. See GNX #'s 1 and 2 went right into Buicks Private collection that was in Michigan. Then #'s 3-10 went to High ranking Buick executives, and then starting with #11 the public could get them. I dont think any of the ones available to the public had moon roofs. I dont think ASC/McClaren would have built the GNX into a T-Top car either cause they would have known of the weaknees in the rigitity of the body with T-Tops and they wanted all the GNX's to handle wonderfully. HTH

The late pres of ASC that just recently passed away had one built into a astroroof, but everything written about that particular car advises that it was not 1 of the 547, but was built right alongside the 547 ones. See Kirbans book for more info. In other words, it was a GN built into a moonroof/astroroof GNX configuration.
Several have been converted to astroroofs, but I think that they all reside in Canada. There was a thread to that affect a while back, with someone in Canada advising that there were 2 real GNXs converted to astroroofs/moonroofs in his town. I believe that the thread revealed that there were a total of about 4 or 5 converted by owners into astroroof/moonroofs. And then the one mentioned above. HTH

Sorry but your alittle off as far as number 11 being the first going to the public. My buddy here in Spokane, WA. owned number 5.

#3-#10 were originally slated to be for Buick and ASC executives but they have mostly since been sold to the public.

I have not seen anything on this.. Im guessing most of the 547 are still around.. I'd guess about 510-520 still left

Does the information exit as to how many of the 547 GNX cars still exist today?

HOW

I believe kirbans book says they were all originally gns and the last 547 made were taken off the line to become gnxs.

There is some debate whether or not the GN's were just pulled at random off the line to become GNX's. The reason for this is because there are pictures of the GN's going down the GM assembly line even before they left for ASC that have a broadcast sheet on the front of them that clearly says GNX on them.

I can't imagine what the rumor mill will be 10 years from now  I thought they all came from Mexico  My cousin Riki told me so

Weren't all of the GNX's equipped the same? And if they were, then they could not have been pulled off totally random, or they would have all been equipped differently. Maybe pulled off randomly amongst the ones that were equipped correctly.

The last 3 GNXs were white convertibles. These were given to the estates of Curly, Larry and Moe. Two were destroyed (together with numerous farm animals) in barn fires of mysterious origin. The sole remaining one will appear shorly in the movie Three Fast and Three Furious, where it will be referred to as a Monte Carlo SS...

The only known GNX with an astroroof in existence...

All GNX's were solid roof cars, meaning no t-tops or astroroofs were available on them. There was ONE exception though...read this:
''The chairman and president of ASC, Heinz Prechter has pristine GNX #033 in his personal collection. This is the only GNX in existence with a factory appearing astroroof that was installed by ASC at the same time the GNX conversions were done.''

This phrase is taken from ''Kirban's Guide to 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regals'' on page 252.
