Were GNX's pulled off the GN line at random?

I guess they must be or I am misreading something. I was reading the VIN number for gnx # 248 and noticed that it is ONE DIGIT higher than the 87 GN I am buying in the next couple weeks. The GNX ends with 448417 and the GN ends in 448416. Does this mean the car behind mine on the assembly line became a GNX? Just curious it would be neat to know. :D

haha..so close yet so far.
If our cars had natural feelings like us, imagine the rejection it would have felt **LOL**

is the one you are buying not a loaded hardtop?? It could explain why yours was not chosen.

Actually they were not chosen at random. Each was optioned with specific RPO codes and the body build plate on the cowl is stamped 'GNX'.

The only thing random is the VIN number each wound up with as they were not all run down the Pontiac plant assembly line together. Therefore, you will find other G-body cars with sequential numbers just before & after GNXs.

Once the cars arrived at ASC, they were not even placed on their conversion line according to their VINs. You'll see some higher GNX numbers on cars with lower VIN sequential numbers.

For example, GNX #385 VIN # ends in 450730 and GNX #382 ends in 450760. :)

Thank you for the info. It is neat to know that the car behind it became a GNX. I'm assuming that they actually did go down the original assembly line in VIN order though didn't they? I'm new at this whole Buick thing so excuse me if it's a dumb question.

Bob

You made a wise choice to buy pauls car. If I would have known he was selling it that cheap I would have written him a check on the spot. His car is legitimate and you will have NO problems with it.

Best regards

The John Deere pickup:)

Ty,

I've known for a while now you were Paul's friend (ever since you were braggin' up the car when he posted it for sale) and I was certain that was you when you pulled in in the john deere truck. Don't worry, the car already has a garage stall waiting for it and it will probably be in just as good of shape (maybe better :) ) in ten years or more. And MAN THAT CAR IS CLEAN! I'll let you know if I ever decide to sell it(not likely). Of course, it may go up in value in the meantime! :D

hey.............

I hope you enjoy it as much as Paul has:)

If you go to your local GM service drive, they can tell you which plant, what date, and what options your car was built with. Just ask them, they will tell you the whole story. Any further info, they can give you in the parts department.,,,,,Mark:D
