As in, I need a new one :) (And no, not referring to Trae Liberty, though he's clearly a toolbag too.)

I'm working on basically the entire family's cars at this point, about 3 times a week. Might as well add shadetree mechanic to my writing business card...

Anyway, I currently have a car wax zip-up bag I got as a gift. It's crammed full of sockets, impact sockets, gear wrenches, end wrenches, general tools like pliers, specialty tools like voltmeters, etc. And every time I open it, it takes 15 minutes to find the tool I need.

Can anyone recommend a large, unzip and fold-out bag with pouches, etc. that actually hold the tools/sockets for you, and would fit well in the trunk?

Extra credit for pics/links!

Thanks,

Rick

Been following this whole debacle and just shaking my head Mark, sucks to see you go through this. How is this douche still on the board?!?

As soon as a few extra bucks get put into the Buick fund, I'll be buying a few goodies from your site!

I like the Home Depot Husky zip bags for my hand tools, meters, soldering and mostly electrical stuff, parts etc.

Ballistic nylon ones come in all sizes and shapes they work okay.

Real tools such as wrenches and sockets etc. I keep in a plastic Craftsman 150 piece tool kit that lies flat and is easy to store and use from the trunk.

Just my .02.

X2 on the nylon bags. Northern tool, sears, harbor freight etc have them cheap. Good for meters , screw drivers and such. I too have the craftsman blow mold case. Good to make sure you get all your tools collected when you are done.
I also have a bigger metal box for bigger trips with bigger stuff. I also keep a 50 cal ammo box in my truck with stuff in it.
Just have to try out some stuff and see what works for you . I do try to buy things that have a case. Great to keep things in good shape.

I have a couple of the HUSKY ones and they seem to work real well with travel and large enough to carry tools and small parts! I have had mine for over five years and it has held up really well. Not expensive at all either!

I use a craftsman truck box. Black molded plastic box holds all my wrenches, metric sockets pliers and some other pieces. It's great especially when I go out to the yards!! It's got a nice handle and tucks nicely under the seat when I put it in the pickup.

I have the bigger Craftsman tote box. I take the top off when I put it in the trunk. It will carry a lot of tools

I have that same big Craftsman one too, I lug it to the race track, it holds a TON of stuff and spare parts, hoses, belts, alky., etc. etc. etc.

Track is 2 hours away so I take most of my repair stuff with me. :D

My cantilever box for big trips. Doesn't fit well so it mostly stays on the shelf.

My small blow mold set. Good for the trunk. Like salvage I also take several soft side bags of things. Easier to make a few trips than haul a giant box/bag imo. Depends on what I think ill be working on as to what I take.

Also have an open top carrier for screw drivers and electrical stuff. Easy to see everything but must be kept upright or it unloads itself.

Small set I picked up for $10 when Lowe's closed out the USA made stuff. Warranty is worthless but they are nice tools.

Battery powered stuff is nice. I picked up this set w/ drill, light and impact driver when hd closed out the USA made Milwaukee. Now all China stuff. Very handy set.
