So I took my new GN to the track last week, and as I pulled into the burnout box for my second run, (the first one, a dissappointing 14.02 1/4, at 99mph) I couldn't for the life of me, break my rear tires loose! (pretty embarasing too!) I could not get my boost to build at a stand still to save my life. SOOOOO I pull up, stage, and try to build boost to launch again. Again, NOTHING! Revved to about 3500 but no boost (I have a 3500 9" billet lock up installed) Green light, off the break, and I took off like a snail going up hill... Once I hit about 30-40kph, boost ramped up, car took off, shifted strong, etc, and ran a 14.4 at 101mph.

Taking the car to the tranny shop tomorrow. any thoughts of how bad this is going to hurt? (from both my wallets perspective, and my wifes?)

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Wastegate partially open or not covering wastegte hole.

If it were the wastegate, would I still be able to build boost? I can still hit my max boost once I'm rolling, just can't stage.

Yes, its probably partially open or uncovered, so its hard to get any boost at low rpm and load.

well, that sounds like it shouldn't be that hard to fix then! Thanks, I'll check it out tonight when I get home from work.

yea doesnt sound like a tranny problem more like the waste gate like everyone else stated

Spray the wastegate arm with some PB Blaster and move it back and forth and make sure you can feel it hitting the exhaust housing on the turbo and sealing the wastegate hole. I have this problem every once in a while with my ATR downpipe not sealing against the turbo exhaust housing. I use copper antiseize on mine it's for hi-heat.

First check to see if the swing valve assembly is free as mentioned above. If it is then unbolt the downpipe from the exhaust housing on the turbo and slide it over. Check to see if the wastegate hole is being covered by the wastegate puck. You will see a mark where the carbon gets rubbed off where it was sealing. If its not sealing you will have to get a bigger wastegate puck.

I'm new here and and pretty much agree with it's probaly the waste gate. But I was wondering if a cracked mainifold could yeild the same results?

It could but not usually as bad as he states. Usually the cracked manifold will make it very lazy. He says he cant get anything at all at low rpm

That is true

It's been so freaken long since I've worked on a turbo car. My last one ended up with a cracked mainifold and at times would be lazy. Then other times was balls to the wall. I finnaly got around to fixing it and damn it that wasn't an adventure lol All I can say is, PB blast is your friend ;)

dumb question of the night, what is PB blast, is it a lubircant like WD-40? Or something different?

The only dumb question is the one not asked

Anyways, I hope I typed it right lol It's like WD-40 and comes in a spray can as well. It works great on rusted exhaust bolts. I'm not sure who all carries it but I found it in teh auto section of Wal-mart.

NAPA also carry's PB blaster. Works excellent on rusted bolts and nuts.
