92 Dodge Caravan 3.3 V6 avg 19 mpg on my 3 mile comute in the hot months - air is broke. In the cool, months I drive a 96 T-Bird avg 21 mpg V6. Wife and I alternate cause she loves the van, can't stand hot. I like the van cause it can be used as a pick up. Love the bird for the ride. Next comute (3 miles) car will be a T Type. What the heck my 86 T Type with 40k miles beats them all in every way.

I alternate between 3 cars. My TType, '67 Valiant, and 72 Challenger. The Challenger uses too much gas, but is a reliable rust bucket. I am trying not to drive the T into the ground, and so I drive the slant six Valiant the most. I thought of getting another one or a dart. Very simple cars and I get about 20mpg. I can't get a speeding ticket in the Vailant because it takes me about 5 minutes to get up to 65 MPH.
I've never owned a ford, but I am thinking of a turbocoupe or an 80's 5.0 Mustang. How reliable are these cars?

That's my daily ride, too! '98 Dakota R/T pulling down a whopping 13.4 MPG. She just turned 6 and has only 29k miles so far...

1989 Ford Econoline Van. Bought it off of eBay for $300.00.

Drives decent. I'm turning the back of it into a bedroom so I can go camping, or live down by a river should I so choose.

And it towed the GN home last weekend when it broke down on the highway

No idea what the mpg is, but then again I don't even know how big the tank is. The gas gauge hits E in about a day, but I can keep driving it for a week before I start to get nervous.

It's a big piece of crap but I refuse to do any work on it.

This thread was almost a year old when transaman resurrected it.

Since I replied back then, and have changed daily drivers, I'll reply again.

I'm driving my brother's 87 T daily now. It's got some cold-idle issues but once warmed up it's a blast to drive. Only one wiper actually touches the window, and the heat doesn't work so good. But for an 18-year old car it's decent.

Sitting in the driveway, awaiting a title, is my new daily driver: a 2001 Cadillac DTS that I restored. It was a flood total. I've been screaming 'round the 'hood in it and I can tell it's going to be a fun car to drive once I can do it legally. The 300 HP Northstar V8 sounds awesome, but it's not that quick because it has a lot of weight to lug around. It can hold its own against most rice and it's very comfortable.

Depends on what's working! And when both are what's the weather or mood. Lately while my Cutlass is down for the trans rebuild it has been my 72 Monte Carlo which would usually spend most of the winter in the garage. When the Cutlass is fixed I would love to get my 65 Fairlane running again maybe just in rat rod stage until I have everything ready to go and exactly as I want it.
Last x-mas I picked up a beater 85 Cutlass from the junkyard did a little repair and detail and sold it for a profit. Helped out not having to leave the nice cars in the parking lot at work while I worked overnight.

I drive a 1996 GMC Yukon, have owned it for 2 yrs. and put 7x,xxx miles on it. Runs great gets right at 15 mpg. mixed driving and 21-22 mpg. on strictly hwy. Now has 196,000 miles on it and I am affraid to touch it. Truck still has original plug wires and such. Only had to replace the fuel pump and belt tensioner pulley in the 70 some odd thousand miles I've put on it. I wouldn't be affraid to ride it anywhere. It has developed a minor cold start piston slap, but that goes away after it has run for about 3-5 min. depending on how cold it is outside. Sorry, for rambling, just thought I'd give my props. to american engineering. Drew

87 Buick Century, Mom bought it with 12000 miles on it. Has about 180,000 now and runs great! About 28-30MPG. Has the MPI 2.8 V-6. Love the little guy!


As far as the question bout the 5.0 Stangs, 87-93 cars are as reliable as they get, owned a 87 LX 5.0 and a 90 GT. Both great little cars!

This past winter I've been driving my '95 Lightning. Its pretty sporty for its size.

Looking for some consistently good weather before I start driving the 87 Turbo-T again.

The Buick is a fantastic daily driver, good on gas, fun to merge with but I hate subjecting it to winter driving.

For the past three years, my daily driver has been a POS 84 VW Golf (European edition). This thing is the weakest motor Golfs came with. It has a raging 52 HP. And that was when new.. god only knows what it is now. It's got a 4speed and tops out on the autobahn at around 100mph (unless going uphill, then top end is around 80 with the foot mashed to the floor). It's a POS, but I have to admit, it got me where I needed to go and hasn't suffered too many failures.

Since we live in the city, we don't have far to commute so I only fill it up every couple of weeks. Have never measured the MPG (here it's actually measured liters per 100km). But it costs about 50 Eur (about $65) to fill up!

Now that I'm coming back to the states, daily driving will be between the Buick that's been sitting in semi-storage and a '04 Trailblazer.

I could only immagine what it must cost to fill a pick up truck, up over there.
wife drives a 93 VW golf GTI - mpg--? about $16 every week. the gas gauge don't work, & neither does the odometer, so we have no idea how many miles are on it.
we also drive a 03 F350 6.0 powerstroke 4X4, about 15 mpg local & 18 highway.
but MY daily driver is a 99 Western Star @6 mpg @ 120,000lbs.

heres my daily, it gets nearly infinite miles to the gallon. The motor runs on food and water.

I guess its pretty funny that I have two cars, there arent enough days in a weekend to really drive both.

Work is only a mile or two away.

I'll bet the heat & a/c don't work all that great.

I drive 70+ miles to work and back daily. My driver is a 1981 Honda Accord 3-door. It has 185k miles on the odometer and still gets 37+ mpg. Of course at 6'2" I barely fit in it and nobody ever wants to ride in it!!

On nice, warm days I ride the H-D and get 30+ mpg, depending on how much I let the pipes sing...
