Looking at rebuilding my tranny and need to replace the convertor. Car will be driven on the street as well as at the local strip. Car will eventually get a TE44 turbo and motor has a GN107T cam (202 lift). Looking at buying a 3000-3200 lock up convertor.

I know vigilante is highly recommended.
I've been told that Yank convertors are good?

After knowing which kind of convertor, who sells certain convertors?

Need more info..... Are you planning on locking the converter a WOT regularly? I do. You really need a converter with a real bad ass clutch to take the repeated abuse..... I run a Vigilante 5 disk "0-pump" . Some people hate them... and say they are over-priced pieces of junk... but I have no reason to dislike it.. cause it has served me well so far.....locking as soon as it goes into second gear.....

The 0-pump is probably enough converter up to around a TE61 or a 6152 turbo.... which is quite a bit more turbo than a TE44 IMHO.

just my 0.02

When it comes to a tranny, I'm lost. I'm getting a guy to rebuild my tranny that owns a local tranny shop.. He has rebuilt these transmissions and has had pretty good success with them, we'll see..

As far as the convertor goes, and "0 pump", I haven't a clue about..

My friend has a orange stripe, but from what I've seen on this site. Most people do not like them. He's ran some 7.20's with a 1.6 60' time which doesn't sound bad to me. He wishes now that he had gone with a bigger convertor though.

I had Jimmy's Trans. in Mundelein install a Vigilante 3200 lock up when the did my rebuild and I thought he had rebuilt the motor while he was in there! Car launches super hard and the shift feels bad ass. The Precision Industries converters are expensive, but well worth the money in my opinion.

As far as Yank converters, I know the LS1 guys love them, and they do hold up to alot of abuse. Go cruise the LS1 boards and see how many guys with nitrous or turbos are running a Yank converter.

The "0-pump" is what Precision Industries (maybe others too ... but not sure) rate there converter for the stall. The "0-pump" is about 3200 stall. The "6-pump" is higher... maybe 3500... not real sure...... basically it differentiates the different stall ratings.

What is the difference between a single disc and multi disc convertor?

Stock converters have 1 disk along with most aftermarket converters. The lock-up clutch have only 1 disk.... which is adequate for highway cruising with the converter locked...... BUT...... when the HP level gets up there... and you would like to lock the converter earlier (like 2nd gear.. and 3rd gear) at wide open throttle...... it will slip the 1 disk converters... and eventually burn up the disk. Precision Industries...was one of the first... if not the first company to adress this by installing multiple disks in some of their converters. The increased friction area... means it will hold alot more torque... locked... without slipping..... They make a 1 disk... 3 disk... a 5 disk... and at one time a 7 disk. I have owned two of them so far (one for my 700R4 I had).. and one on my GN. I currently run the 5-disk Vigilante "0-pump" converter on my GN. It is sweet. The only drawback so far... is they rattle some at idle in park.... annoys the hell out of some people.... I don't mind it to bad.... I'd rather put up with a little rattle in park idling and have all thise lock-up disks... than to have a single disk that made no noise.... but that is just me.

How does the 9/11 convertor from ck performance compare to the vigilante convertor. There is a big difference in price but what is the difference in performance/quality?

PTS's Billet 9x11 works well

Ask someone who has one.
