Hey guys,

I recently picked up a 86 GN that had trans rebuild last Feb. When I got the car it looked like a front pump leak and a pan leak, I pulled the trans inspected front pump was bone dry and I replaced the pan gasket. At that point I installed a CK shift kit put all back together and noticed that the converter sat 3/4 of an inch away from the flex plate. So my guess is the rinky dink trans shop put a shiny new wrong converter in ....pucks on the convertor are round as well.

So here is the question: Mostly stock 86 GN what converter to get? I will be modifying in the near future so I want to get a converter that would be a good match for the future.

Lock up? non lock up? and how drivable would a 2800 stall be??

Hope to get some opinions on this one! Thanks

It depends on what et or power range your shooting for.

For a street car with a stock cam you can do a 2200 stall 12" or a 2800 stall 10" and run a turbo from TA-49 up to something like a DBB 61mm.

A 2800 stall at 0 boost converter is very driveable, a 2200 stall 12" feels almost like a stock converter. Just for reference a stock converter should stall 1600-1800. Some of the D5's replaced by trans shops will go less than 1400.
