Just trying to get an idea on the market value of these cars...not trying to pry into anyones biznez. :D What did you pay and how much did you get for your dollar?

I paid $7K and got a $6K car. ;)

Now that I've put $4K into it I finally have my $7K car. :D

Unfortunately that's a true story.

NOT FOR SALE however.

What did it have for mods when you bought it and what was wrong with it? Did you travel far to get it?

I paid 4250 for a good running car no rust but after paint 2500, interior 500, rearend, ect, ect. I have 10,000-11,000 in a 130,000 mile car. My car looks good and runs good but I think I could have spent the same money for a lower milage car.
The only thing about buying cheap and fixing up is you don't have to lay all the money out up front.

I paid $10,000 3 years ago for a mint 38K Mile 87 GN, Astroroof, digital dash, power seat, basically stock.

I payed 7000 for my 87 and it was decent paint minus minor checking on the hood and bad bumper fillers but he had new ones in the trunk. Good drivetrain and perfect interior, 81,000 miles About 4 months later we bagan to hear a slight knock in the motor on cold mornings and after that it needed a rebuild. Now its turned into the money pit it is today, and I wouldnt have it any other way. :D We payed 5 for our 86 GN with 141,000 on it, bad paint, perfect interior and has been the most maintenance free car I've driven for the past 20,000 miles or so lol. Stock everything exept for the fuel pump and exhaust.

Paid $3200 for mine bout 2 years ago. uhhh....its got alot more than that in it now...and its still not anywhere close to finished.

$40,000 +

Paid $17,706 new. 3 blocks, 6 turbos, 3 intercoolers, 4 trans etc etc. = $40,000, now worth $15,000

Paid about 15500 for mine new....I am like sixbanger....cept I don't want to know what I have in it. :)

$10,500 with only 26k miles and factory original condition...the dealer had no idea what he was selling:rolleyes:

I paid too much for mine. I bought my 86 GN for 10,500 two years ago. It had alot of mods done to it which were new such as new turbo, intercooler, fuel pump, injectors, new wheels, and paint. It was probably a 6-7000 dollar car and the previous owner had just done all of the mods so they didn't have a bunch of miles on them. That made sense at the time but with the additional 5-6000 I've put into it I would probably lose my rear big time if I tried to sell. But I was a motivated buyer at the time and thought it was a nice car.

Paid 1000 for a puked 85 GN. $3000 later and the %#&^ thing still won't run right (still looks like crap too) Bought a 155k 98%stock 87 up north a couple of months back for 6200, probably on the low end of fair market value. Needs paint and trace amounts of rust in the doors and the usual 3.8 oil leaks but he sucker runs great, plenty of boost, shifts are crisp and handles like new. Do need to put a radiator in it, front brakes are almost gone and it cost more to fix the a/c than I hoped, but I'd do it again without thinking twice:cool:

Mine was $13,500. Mileage was 47K, plus every bolt on(less than a year old) that I would have eventually added(TA-49,front mount,2800 stall, rebuilt trans, lowered,tb,inj, widened stock wheels ect,,,,). The previous owner stated he "built it to run in the 11's". This has been the most reliable and fun car I could ever dream of owning.....:D . plus it has the better looking grill;)

me, im on my second one.. first one was a '84, paid $4000, put in about $2000, sold for $2500..

Current: '87 GN

$3200 - crap paint, crap bondo job on trunk, broken ass header panel, wrong grill (and painted to boot), atleast it had a "rebuilt engine with 45k and a new turbo with 50 miles on it" which turned out to be a stock engine with 200k and a old ass te44 rebuilt as a 62 with so much burnt up oil inside it that it wouldnt spin freely anymore.. engine spun a bearing.. LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT IT. .. Well, at $3200 and a rebuilt engine and new turbo, IT doesnt matter what the paint looks like right!!

I won't mention any names, but noone offered to at least refund part of my money for selling me a worthless pile of ****.. *Cough* airforceone *Cough.*

- end rant -

I paid $4,000 for mine with 100k, rusted rockers, bad turbo, bad rod bearings, and previously wrecked. (found out after i bought it) Since I bought it, had the engine rebuilt,$3,000, new turbo $700,had a semi run into the left quarter right behind the door at about 3 mph(door doesn't close right now) and got a crapload of hail damage. So, I have about 9k invested in a $4000 car, if that. And then, as a final kick in the nads, I talked to someone about 4 weeks after I bought it and he was selling his 87 GN with 33k miles, fresh paint job, no rust, never wrecked for $8500:eek:

But, I'm still happy as a pig in poo cuz I was able to purchase and own one of my dream cars.

Paid 7-G for mine. I had 78K on it. It was all stock (except the trans had been repalced w/th400). Body, paint and interior were near perfect. Still running grea... Well, I'd better quit. I don't want to jinx myself.;)

a bit out of date, but....

I paid $13K for my 87 GN back in '91 with 21K. It was all stock except for an old ATR Ram air, which i didnt even know wasnt stock until I found this site early last year. Funny since both GN's I looked at at the time had it. Didnt put a dime into it other than tires and a Brake pressure switch (in '96 for $22).

spent a few $$ in the last year though...now has 43K on the clock

17K for a 4700 mile GN back in 95. Still smelled new. For some reason the guy put a Currie 9" rear in it. Was lowered and had some billet aluminum wheels on it and a K&N filter. Only other mod was a set of gauges in the console that were not hooked up.

Many mods and $$$ since then.

"What did it have for mods when you bought it and what was wrong with it? Did you travel far to get it?"

Car was basically stock with a repaint and very minor frame rust and just starting inside the doors, easily fixable.... when I get time. :D

Was a southern car then stored in another midwest state but I bought it locally so no travel.

Had some body work done to it I found out later, but a decent job, perfectly drivable as it was.

Needed a major tuneup such as plugs, wires, air filter which was dirty black and stock, and I put a better chip in it and then started modding it. Stock injectors suck over 100K miles in MHO.

3K mile tires were flatspotted in the front which made it drive poorly so I replaced those.

$$$$ well spent for a good driver with most options including astroroof. No major complaints although $1K cheaper would have been a good deal.

I will never get my money back but I don't ever try to in a car.

I drive them until they won't go anymore. ;)

87 GN $2700

I paid $2700 for my 87 GN back in 99 from Tim here on Turbobuick(TRDIRKS) (wish I could find the ad but I guess there are no archives?) He sent me pictures which made the car to be alot worse then it actually was I rented a trailer and went down to MD from NYC (made it in about 3 hours in a leased car that was going back the following day) Barely made it to the trailer place and brought the car home Close to $10,000 later the car is 95% done - only thing I havent done is have it painted .
$200 for new headliner
$500 for tires
$2200 for engine rebuild
$300 for exhaust
$300 scanmaster
$1500 for tranny/torque converter
$150 for new carpet
Hmm thats $5150 off the top of my head not including labor
Isnt that the code for criminally insane? (and the title of an awesome VH album)
