What does an 85 T look like factory?

Joined

I have an 85 T that came factory black. Someone painted it to look like GN trim. If i wanted to restore the factory look, does anyone know what that is? Any pics of one to follow?

I.E. chrome bumpers, moldings, etc.

I have more - WH1's mainly - but technically a T Type with paint and a spoiler.

Chrome bumpers- yes
Moldings? Depends.
Front Signal lights - chrome
Grill - T type style

If it has W02 - the certain trim pieces are painted satin black.
Most actually - except for the front signal lamps - which was wierd.
And the bumper mounted turn signals of course which are chrome bezels.
Other than that - if it has a SPID tag under the rear decklid - I can tell you exactly what the trim combo should look like

Hi and thank you for the info / pics. I wish i had the tag but the trunk lid looks to have been replaced at some point and doesn't match. That is why i am trying to find out.

Mine is the W-11. black out trim, but why the chrome turn lights

Well, no harm, no foul.
If you don't have a SPID, and you're not overly concerned about having to return it some unknown original state - then you might already be fine.

Why do you think the trim was repainted "GN style"?
Is it bright anodized alum under the black paint?
Let's eliminate the possibility that it is a Limited or such with all their various bright trim pieces .
I mean - alot of T types came with W02 - so it isn't at all wrong to have certain trim elements as satin black.
Front and rear glass trim could have been black
Lower windshield reveal could have been black
B-pillar trim can be black.
Drip rail can be black.
Now for the bumpers - they need to be chrome.
The grill - as I said - Chrome T Type grill.
Headlight bezels and tailight trim can usually be black.
In general, the only sticking point worth fighting over is those signal lamps I referred to. some are chrome - some are black, probably replacements.

Assume you have painted bumpers.
The chrome bumpers are killers.
Especially since you really want to either find a nice driver set with alum reinforcements, or f you have a pair with steels, replace that crappy and heavy steel with alum reinforcements.
And ditch the bumper shocks while you are doing it.
They serve no useful purpose - other than 5 mph crash damage control.

Well - yours looks to be an intercooled, LC2 - hence a 1986 variant.
But - the answer is the same
They just did that.
Why - I do not know.
I for one kind of like it.
But I am happy with either black or chrome on those signal lamps.
It's just that one thing I always know to look at when looking over a WH1.
A minor thing - but a thing.

Oh - very nice car by the way. :D
That is a very rare build combo.
Very rare.
The only thing that could make it rarer in my mind would be a CF5 / Astroroof
But I'm a T-top guy anyway mostly.
One of my all time favorites.
I am looking for one just like that.
There is one for sale up my way- but my bank account doesn't want to cooperate.

Notice on a couple of those WH1 pics above - the signal lamps are black.
I believe they are replacements - because if you look at the factory photos - you see chrome signal lamps.

Pre 86 does it make it more rare now.

So that car has a 85 build date then?
I see the 6-17-85 - which is so unusual since the shutdowns were usually in July / Aug.
But I've heard those tales of when they changed over the 85's to 86s.
Strange.

You have those crazy seats too.
It's not brandon cloth and not the 86/87 type T grey velour
It's something else.

Very different indeed.

Cuz I think they forgot about the signal lamps! :D
It was probably like -
1st GM worker = "Oh blimey - we forgot to put that on the list"
2nd GM worker = "Nah forget about it, they're talking about bulldozing this place anyway"
3rd GM worker - "Yeah fluck Rgoer Smith and the horse he rode in on"

Tricky business without the lable. I have a WH1 with all blackout trim, not listed as w02 its broken down to each and every induvidual piece on the option lable and I DO have black bumpers Must have been the only way it was possible ?

I know that all the w02 cars came with chrome turn lights and I have read numerous times that
the only cars with black ones were the G/N's. I'm not sure what the wh-1 cars came with because I have seen them both ways. :meh:

probably whatever guy was slapping them on just used what they thought was right. My dads 88 Monte SS clearly states it has hatch roof, its even on the window sticker . that fuker is a hardtop for sure lol.. He bought it in 1988 as a dealer demo so it defiantly does not have a roof swap

I know this is a very old post, but I got a chuckle out of it. - dartguy340 stated:

When I picked up my 85 WH1 from the dealership in Oct. of 1984 the passenger side had a chrome signal lamp and the drivers side had a black one so..... my WH1 came both ways  would that make it a hermaphrodite - I did ask the dealership to do a sex change and remove the chrome signal lamp for the black cause I liked the look better and so my TR would not have an identity crisis.

Sure wished those pictures were still available for me to view in this old thread. :)
