Do they use an electric 4000ppm VSS mounted in the trans? If they do, where can I get one to fit the small opening of the 200-4R? The 700 trans have the large opening.

Otto,

Not really looking for that style of sensor. Thanks for th elink though.

I've searched almost every part of the internet and found nothing that will fit a 200-4R. I think the easiest way for me to do it is to just put a stripped down speedometer head under the dash and let the stock cable drive it. That way, all the wiring is still stock and I don't have to run any wires from the transmission through the firewall or use any aftermarket speed sensors.

What are you using the signal for? the factory speed sensors on the GNs are pretty inaccurate

Rigging up a set of late model factory gauges in a TR dash.

Someone makes an inline pulse generator that goes inline with the speedo cable just not sure who. I have one on my 87 GN.

Try these guys.

I checked them out while I was searching. Thanks for the link though.

It looks like the easiest thing to do is what I said earlier....just put a stripped down speedo head under the dash and let the original optical speed sensor stay hooked up. I can get the speed signal pulse from the cruise control unit for the late model head unit.

i want to see a write up on this- i've thought of doing the exact same thing ever since i first saw the dash layout in my mom's 99 LeSabre..

That's exactly what type car these came out of. I like the earlier 91-92 gauges because the tach has double digits...like 10, 20, 30....instead of just 1, 2, 3. There is some trimming of the inner dash but not enough that if you wanted to go back to the original TR dash, you could without a problem.

a full write up is in order.. with pics, wiring diagrams, part numbers, costs, and suggested donor vehicles.

are you going to make the shift indicator functional?
i wonder if Buick ever had that style of cluster in a car with a supercharged 3.8- those had boost gauges..

I have a 94 Park Ave Ultra that's supercharged...I'll take a look and see. I don't remember it having a boost gauge though. If it does, then I know which set of gauges I'll be using...:D I even found a connector to adapt to the TR wiring so that you don't have to cut up the original TR dash wiring that the original cluster plugs into!

I didn't have any luck finding a speed sensor (in-line or for mounting in a 200-4R transmission) that could output both a 2000 pulse per mile and a 4000 pulse per mile. I didn't want to use a DRAC module either.

Just in case if anyone doing a search was wondering what I done, I wound up converting an original 2000 pulse per mile speed buffer to a 4000. I now have two factory speed sensors...one for the ECM & cruise control and one for the electric speedometer.

If you want to see how I done it click here and scroll down about half the page.
