First of all what exactly is boost creep? Second of all what exactly does a boost controller do for our cars and do we need them? I have people ask me ALL the time "do you have a boost controller?" i'm like no i don't need one, i can adjust boost through the wastegate arm...

what are the good things about boost controllers? can you really adjust your boost inside the car with the turn of a knob? i don't understand how they work

also next year i plan to go with a THDP and was wondering what it means to port your wastegate hole...i mean my boost on my te-44 turbo is fine...spools fast and i can keep the boost steady without it falling or jumping up...this is with the stock 90 elbow and a 3" DP

Boost creep is when the wastegate and puck cannot keep the boost under control and it "creeps" up in third gear when it should be dropping by 2psi instead. A sticking puck can cause this among many other things

I dont have a boost controller but it is a popular upgrade among import guys, and it allows boost control from the drivers seat. I know you have a Postons catalog, you can see one in there. Most of the major vendors have them for our cars. Works great with alky/propane injection

Here a link to the Boost Controller from RamChargers

No more getting out an adjusting that hot wastegate control arm at the track....run out of alky, turn the knob and your safe.
Do'nt have to have one to go faster, but sure is nice.
It uses the stock WG solenoid and pulses it in addition to the computer to control boost, and it repeatable and dead on each time.
As for boost creep, it is common when upgrading to the THDP as now you have a mandrel bend coming off the turbo, and will allow for the exhaust to escape much easier, causing less pressure to escape thru the wastegate, and causing gradual over-boost at higher rpms, hence, "Boost creep". Your TE-44 may already have the WG hole opened up to 15/16", thats usually what the WG hole is opened up to when upgrading to the THDP. The WG puck on the THDP is much bigger than the stock one, allowing the WG hole to be opened up a bit. If the WG hole is not already opened up to 15/16 and you start getting higher boost when you hit 3rd gear, then you'll need to enlarge the WG hole the puck sits on. Go no bigger than 15/16 though.

that's cool guys...looks like i will invest in a boost controller next spring...i would love the idea of having to be able to adjust boost inside the car...i will have alky next spring so it will be an added plus...i hate adjusting the wastegate rod all the time because i never know exactly what boost level i am running...it's always a guess...

how high can i set the boost on a boost controller? up to 30 psi i would hope...and does the boost controller get rid of boost creep or should i still worry about that when i get the THDP next year...

It only varies 5-6 psi. per solenoid. (Ramchargers unit)

No it won't cure the creep.

Proper puck alignment and porting etc. will still be necessary.
