kinda interesting thread:) the few autograghed stuff i have is just from some underground/indie/not that famous bands that i always adored/supported over the years. (the catherine wheel, big wreck, the velveteen, rainer maria, fugazi, etc...)
being in a couple differant local semi-signed bands, i've had a few chances to get some autographs from a few differant maybe/maybe not, notable people, but didn't bother. sometimes your afraid your just being annoying. whats really funny is when somebody would ask for my autograph, lol!
in 1997, i didn't get a autograph, but did have a brief conversation with bono from u2 on their pop tour at chicago's soldier field. i was a huge u2 fan up until these last couple albums kinda lost me :(

maybe kinda cool to note... a few months ago, my mom and dad bought gary burghoff's (radar, from mash) rv/motor home. I got a personel signed copy of his new book, "to mash and back"

Ive collected sports memorabilia for years with my father. I have a huge collection of signed baseballs and footballs and pictures etc. Some of my favorites that I have are Johnny Unitas, Howie Long, Jerry Rice, Brooks & Frank Robinson, Cal Ripken, Jim Palmer, Earl Weaver, Whitey Ford, Steve Carlton & Alex Rodriguez. ALL of my signatures have been obtained by ME! Thats the best part in my book, 99% of the time I was able to snap a picture with the player and the item that I had signed it made it that much more special to me. Dad and I would travel to sports conventions all over the east coast to meet these players and get their signatures. It was a lot of fun checking all these shows out. I would guess between the two of us we have close to 500 signatures, Now all are not famous players of course some guys were wash outs or short term players but I have some other classics. The Cooperstown / Canton guys were always the best to go after but also would carry a large cost to sign! :)

Would you know Values or what sports figure commands the most? Past or present.

I know My brother Say's a guy like Bobby Orr get $150 to sign anything. Kinda steep for an old hasbin.

I have a rough idea of what some of the players can bring. The market has jumped around so much over the years its hard to tell. One of the best ways to tell is to find a similar signed item that has a COA with it and see what the going rate is. Ebay is a good souce but don't be tricked by the low prices most people won't buy a signed item "blind: or on a persons word with out a true certified COA from a major company.

It all depends on the player and how much they want to sign, Most of these guys let it go to their heads. I used to pay between $35 and $70 for most of my signatures. It was still a tad high but these were true star and HOF players. I think Howie Long cost me the most and his was $95 but I had to have it, he was one of my favorites as a kid. Bobby Orr sounds high very high I'm not up on Hocky that much but thats big bucks to spend. Hell Brooks Robinson used to sign as many as you want for free at a Chevy dealer not far from me years ago. The best was when I got Jerry Rice to sign a few things in a K Mart in Baltimore when he was promoting his "fruit snacks" that never took off :D Thats my favorite part about my collection, each auto has a neat story tied to it to obtain it.
