I was just on the phone with a guy that I'm thinking about having rebuild my tranny.

Comes with a Art Carr shift kit, Alto red Clutches, Billet Servo, Wide Kevlar band with some kind of Heavy duty pin (I'm not a tranny guy obviously), 13 vane pump, and a hardened stator...I think that's it but maybe be something I'm forgetting.

Does this sound like a tranny that would take Low 11's consistantly, and if I push it like 2 or 3 10 sec. passes??

Thanks for any input...I'm not to knowledgable with trannies, and just want to get one that will last awhile and work with my budget.

im sure one of the tranny shop guys can tell you better than i but ill take a shot. I would say you would want a billet forward drum(they like to snap on the 3-2 downshift) and maybe a billet input shaft. These trannys are real hit or miss, some last forever with out breaking hard parts and other don't. My dad and I build our own and so far I have broken a 12 inch orange convertor, sun gear shell, stock input shaft, twisted splines on the stock Overdrive planetary(same incident for the input and od planet). I saved up and made the whole trans bulletproof. Check out the sticky at the top, Bruce has it laid out pretty good on what certain cars may need. Good luck man

Thanks man..Heck I never even bothered to look at the sticky (duh!).

The only thing I heard about a input shaft is that they usually don't take anything out with them when they break, and my tranny guy says he could replace a stocker with a stock 2-3 times for the price of a billet one.

Slow, whichever way you go do not put a 13 vain pump in it. They no advantage over a 10 vain, but they have a lot of draw backs such as cracked rotors on a regular basis. JDS is right with what he is saying. You may get by without billet parts for awhile, but it will come back to haunt you much sooner than you need to be dealing with it. Check out our web page and you can find all you need to make it strong. We have everything from billet front pump assembly to billet O/D planet sun shell.

First thanks Mark for your Straight forward answer.

I guess me next question is what do I do now then...I can't afford more then this, and I'm going to be daily driving it for a while AND it's slipping...Should I just get a basic rebuild for now, save my money and get a hardcore tranny later?? I wanted to dip into the 11's by the end of the year.

It's going to be awhile before I let it sit, my other car is down, and I have to get rid of it or fix it so my woman can drive it before I can pick up a daily (only drive 5 min. to work).

The guy told me his tranny would run what I want to run. Lonnie Diers quoted me a price on a tranny that I MIGHT me able to afford, but I would have drive all the way home to Indiana, grab my buddies truck, drive to Lonnies in Cinci, Drive home and swap trannies, All while I'm on Leave...Who wants to do that on vacation?? Lucky for me a bud back home has a core to build or I would not even have that option.

Sounds kinda tight in several ways Slow. I do know Lonnie would build you at great unit though. Might want to think that one thru and it may well save you much time and money down the road.

Thanks Mark...Yeah I drove a car with one of Lonnies trannies in it and MAN was it nice...shifted real nice.

Well I just talked to the guy and he said he will put a 10 vane in it if I want...My goals are modest, I don't plan on pushing it hard for at least a year and by then I'll be able to afford one of those nifty Killer Street trannies.

Then just wait, I had your same thought, had it done locally 3 times in that year, sure I saved money, but for what, 3 towing charges, embarrassment on the side of the road, car smoking like crazy from a blown seal. Learn form me, just wait for the good one "Killer Street/Strip" I put mine in and beat the piss out of it for the past 2 years, and I mean that in the nicest way, and it has perfomed flawlessly, hell get the 9X11 converter too, that really wakes up the turbo!
Sad to say I have since sold the car, but the buyer was impressed with the tranny/knew all about them and I'm sure its one of the reasons he bought the car! Maybe I owe Bruce some commission?

Slow, not just any 10 vain. Tell him to at least invest in a 10 vain billet pump kit. Will cost you more now, but it will not break.

Well I can guarantee you I can't afford it...This rebuild is about the max I CAN afford, and I can't wait sorry Vett-Klr.

Look at it this way, I run 13.07 right now, we all know that's not fast enough to hurt it...And this isn't just some local yokel his has a few 200-R4's in the 10's in Buicks...I checked his references.

As long as I can put slicks on it, and go 12's that'll be enough for a while...I'll just put the Killer Street on the list for later.

Sorry to disapoint, I'll probably get a Macco Paint job to.

I do appreciate any and all input, and if I had the moola I would have an all billet tranny already.

No problem Slow, we all live in the world. I know what you are saying. Any questions or help, let us know, it's why we are here.
