What happens if i disconnect the Coolant Temperature Sensor?

So i found out my random backfire / stalling problem CEASES when i unplug the CTS... apparently it randomly tells the ECM that its 284* and since the coolant is only 160* or so, the car ceases to run... i heard a faulty CTS can cause a car to not start, so i figured this might be my problem. i've unplugged it for now and the car runs kind of crappy but it DOES NOT STALL. woohoo.

so can anyone tell me what happens when you unplug it? does it default to a certain temperature? I've noticed in the mornings the car runs like crap for awhile, and the part throttle response is horrible.

but this is a welcome trade off to randomly stalling while driving, until i have a chance to get a new one, or test the wiring.. because the CTS in there now is only a year and a half old..

I just had a problem with my CTS in my '91 blazer. CTS was saying the temp was -4 degrees and flooding the engine and it would barely run. I unplugged it and drove home, but it ran kind of crappy. I think it goes into limp home mode. Replaced the temp sensor and it runs like new.

unplugged, you'll run in open loop and the TCC won't lock

i re-did the wiring.. it had some butt connectors on it for some reason... i dont know who the hell did that but they are RETARDED... there was like 3" of wire coming out of the loom, i dont know why anyone would cut the wires that short, but whatever.. i PULLED the butt connectors off with very little effort then soldered and heatshrinked the wiring... plugged it back in and no problems so far.. everyone cross your fingers otherwise $25 goes to GM for a new one..
