I searched for best tire and nothing comes up. Then I searched for tire and got more than I bargained for. Unfortunately none of the threads refered to the best all weather tire. So what do you guys recommend in the stock size? Tire Rack has 4 pages of tires in 215X65X15 size, and one page in 235X60X15. Do white letter tires look better than black letters on an all stock 86 GN with t-tops? How about Cooper tires? I have them on one of my GN's and they seem to be ok. Goodyear might look the most "authentic" going back to 1986.

Look at the white care in my sig and pretend its black

The problem with stock size tires is finding them. Goodyears will be fine, just understand that stock size tires will have very limited traction :D

White car has 235/60/15 Front and 245/60/15 Back

You will get mixed reviews about whit letter tires on this board. I personally love the look of white letter tires on a GN. I like the BFG radial T/A with the white letters, because the font is not as "loud" as some other brands, but the white font is still visible enough. You can get a great deal on the BFG tires from summit racing.

I have the BFG Radial T/A tires on both of my GNs and they work great.

I don't know what tires you did look at but I run Yokohama Avid V4s tires. They are high performance M+S tires. They come in several sizes including 215-65-15. If you are sticking with the stock wheels you can use the stock size but there are some other sizes you can use. You could use 235-60-15 on the back and 215-65-15, 215-60-15 or 205-65-15 on the front.

I have Kirbans GNX style wheels on my T-Type. They are 16 by 8's. I run 225-55-16 on the front and 255-50-16 on the back. The GNX used 245-50-16 on the front but I run the 225's because the 245's would rub when you turn the wheels all the way to lock. These are good looking tires and drive great. They are a high quality tire. And NO I don't sell tires. My job has nothing to do with cars at all. You can go to www.yokohamatires.com and check them out and go to tire rack and discount tires for prices. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Well you were half way there... you said you already looked at TireRack. Go back and look at the tire ratings and reviews there. Shouldn't be too hard to pick. Everything is organized into performance and weather category.

For stock tire size, only one tire comes up for "ultra performance all season" (the best), Dunlop SP 5000. The category below it "high performance" has Bridgestone and Michelin.

I just put a set of BFG Traction T/As on wife's car. All around best for snow/rain/dry. If you want snow/rain/dry & drag, then this is not the tire for you. Good news is you can get them in stock size for TR for about $70 each. However they'll be T rated so keep it under 118 mph. :D

Thanks for the info. Won't need a drag tire- this car doesn't even have posi. It is all stock except for trunk braces (it has t-tops), fuel pump and hotwire. Will probably remove the MAF and get translator set up (and extender chip), just for reliability. Maybe Mike Licht will run a sale at Bowling Green this year.
