I am trying to find the best bolt on turbo for a stock engine stock stall that can spool easy. What have you guy's used. Is there any new small BB turbos out there?

I can tell you this: I just bolted a PT6162BB on yesterday...I have a "red stripe converter" (pretty much stock from what I understand) it has soooomme lag...but when it hits it HITS...HARD:D ....I don't like the lag. I had someone else drive it that just LOVES it...so I guess its up to the owner....I'm going to order 3000 stall converter then I think I will happy.....

Which turbo is going to be best is going to depend on what your goals are and how much money you want to spend. The stock turbo can get you to the low 12's without too much trouble, how fast do you want to go?

It is on my fathers GNX. The original turbo is going back in the box. He still want's to have fun at a stop light. I know what you mean with a stock turbo. I went 11.99 at 111mph with a stock turbo and a pt 51 with a stock motor and a 3000 stall it went 11.40 at 117mph with only a 3psi launch.

I'm running a GT6157BB. Spools like the stocker and as said above, it hits HARD. I have a stock motor and D5 converter. Very pleased with this combo.

That's good to hear, I've got the same turbo with an s-cover waiting to go on my stock motor/d5 combo as well hoping for some good spool and a good top end.

Nice. I'm running the E cover. Be ready for the permagrin your first time out with that thing. The sound is different too, and it spins for about 30 sec. after you shut off the motor.

I just put on a 6157e, not the BB version. I have a 3000 stall and will head to the track tomorrow. I like the turbo so far. I think my converter is responsible for the slight lag, but that shouldn't be a problem at the track. I'm going to make a pass on street tires just for fun. They have a special street tire class. A friend ran 7.2 in his S-10 pick up, 1/8th mile track. He placed second.

Thanks let me know how it works. Are you going next weekend to union grove? I herd the Chicago buick club going.

This 6162 which was once called the 6152 if Im right is what Im looking to bolt on next. The only thing is that I would be getting a 3200 Vigilante single disc LU converter.Should be a great set up.I would bypass the 3000 stall converter.

te44

with a precision .63 housing. it's old school but it will put the #'s up and it spooled like a stocker.......Bob

I did buy a PTE-44 Turbo from Precision years ago.The biggest mistake I made was switching the Precision .63 Housing to a Garret .63 Housing.I thought with the Garret housing it would spool faster and be better on the street.Actually when taking off with a footbrake the PTE .63 hit so much harder when it hit full boost or another gear.My spooling problem's lie elsewhere probably my wastegate set up.After trying to convince myself to buy one of these newer Turbo's I might just swap to that .63 Precision housing.I sold mine years ago to a guy on this site.It was a mistake but not as bad as buying a BB Turbo and not being happy with it.The TE-44 is a great street Turbo for sure still.

I know my TA 49 is old school, but it spools up very fast on the street and it has the precision .63 housing and stock converter.

Since it's a GNX I would go with a TA-49, looks stock, it's sound, and it should take you where you want to go.

Most people think the 44 Turbo is to small for my set up.That may be true but I would still like to put back that PTE .63 Housing on my 44.It was wicked from a stop.If I ran high 11's Im not sure I would go with a 61 BB Turbo. My Turbo regal weighs more then the avearage T-Type because of some other options like Astro roof, leather seats, shifter up near the steering wheel. These extra options I wish the car didn't have.Astro Roof doesn't work, leather seats are coming apart and its hard to shift with the main controls not on a console.I think I have the luxury edition but its not luxorious like it was in 1987.Also I would rather go 1 size smaller on a Turbo then go 1 size to big because I don't like the Lag but these newer BBearing Turbo's are supposed to take care of that.I have heard some guys complaining of lag with the 61 Turbo.
