I have just moved overseas. Need to file my taxes. Tried one of those tax programs many many years ago. Got stuck on a question and never used one since. Keep hearing how easy these tax programs are. Have they gotten better?
Retired military.
Did not work 2014
Married.
Wife worked in 2014.
Own home, paying mortgage.
Any idea on my best option?

Yes they are much better. I use Turbo Tax exclusively. File electronically.

I wussed out and used a CPA I know in Boston that handled a lot of expat accounts. With me being out of the country, owning a home and a rental, and a stateside spouse's job it was worth it to have one someone wade through all the legal stuff and keep it organized.

Don't forget to track all of your full days in and out of the US (partial days nor travel days don't count) for tax reasons as prep for next year. If you can hit that 330/365 days there are some sweet exclusions you can take. If this would be a long term arrangement, maybe get a professional to do them once, get some advice, and then do the following years yourself.

Turbotax might be able to walk you through all your events for tax year 2014, but I get so paranoid about not getting a professional's advice. I think one of the Turbotax bundles get you an unlimited amount of calls to talk with a tax expert too. Like "deluxe" package or something...
