Mine worked fine for a while like I had it which was taking out the top red wire all together and tapping strait into the bottom wire while leaving it plugged into it's original position.

But then the pump would run for about 8 seconds then shut off. Do I have it wrong?

You will create too much pressure with the switch bypassed unless you have some way of dropping voltage to the pump.

Pressures in excess of 200 PSI can lead to lots of issues if your not running quality hoses and fittings designed for such pressure. Plus the fact the extra pressure creates extra volumes which when running mixes can hydro a motor/crack pistons/create carnage.

Why your pump is acting weird... dunno how you did your setup..but something sounds like you did it wrong.
