What is this? Any upgrade suggestions?

I have had this car only 3 weeks to drive then it was sent to be restored. It is in its 13th week of an 8 week restoration process. I have not been hands on with this mechanically yet but what is this part (see pic)? I am assuming it is the fuel pressure regulator? If so, since the shop said it was leaking fuel, they would replace it for me. I see on this board about FPR's and is there an upgrade or a brand I should buy to replace? Currently stock car except for 3 inch downpipe, 3 inch exhausts w/o the cats, cold air system. Didnt have enough time to tell what chip is in the car. Thanks for the help.

You are correct the upgrade would be an adjustable one, but you would also need a gauge to be sure its set right. you dont need to leave the gauge on but it dont hurt.

Yep, it is the fuel pressure regulator. In a stock car, a non adjustable OEM type regulator will be fine. If you intend to upgrade items, such as the fuel injectors and methanol, you'll want to go with an adjustable FPR. Don't forget the fuel pressure guage if you get an adjustable unit.

Accufab makes a very good adjustable FPR and they can be purchased through several supporting vendors on this site (Cotton's, Full Throttle etc).

If you didnt want to fiddle with adjustments you could buy the trans am 237 regulator, same basic piece no adjustment but it does raise the fuel pressure over the stocker. Check with any of the vendors on the vendors page.

Here is another one you might want to look at getting. You will want an adjustable one because sooner or later you will get a performance chip that will need to have the fuel pressure set at a specific pressure. Buy once and you won't regret it.

Thats the one I'd buy also, as the 237 cost more anyway.

Thanks for your suggestions. Just ordered for the Kirban Adjustable. Ill be back for more sugguestions if I ever get the car back from the body shop. ARG! They are doing a lot of extras for me at no cost since I have been patient. Dont want to piss them off or the first car wash and Ill have a primered car again.
