My car has a cat converter, so i dont know what this is. My engine doesnt use more than a quart every 2000 miles. I have a PCV catchcan. My engine doesnt smoke, except for the little puff at startup. The smell is so pungent at idle that it makes my eyes water and makes me choke. Its hard to describe. It almost smells like gas AND oil burning at the same time. I dont see any oil burning on the exhaust. I was thinking sticking injectors, but it holds pressure for about an hour after shutdown. The plugs dont look wet when I pull them, and there is no sign of oil burning....the compression is good. The plugs actually look very good. Can a bad cat cause this? Funny thing is, the guy I bought it from, smogged it before I took delivery, and it passed. Theres a catch to this passing though. It had ZERO PPM, LOL. Guess its burning cleaner than an electric car. He said the test was not a cheater, and he used it to pass his other GN. I just dont see how any car could have zero emissions, especially this car, with the way it's smelled since I bought it. The only other time Ive smelled this, was with a saturn I used to own, that had bad valve seals. But that car smoked all the time. Once the engine is totally warmed up, it idles terribly. Ive fixed the way it runs the rest of the time. Only thing left is my ignition module/coil pack. The potting epoxy was all sticky and melted. Think its just misfiring causing this? It runs really strong, except that it makes some light popping crackling sounds when I'm 100% WOT. Almost sounds like its coming from the intake tube. There is a little bit of valvetrain noise, but hardly. I pulled the valve cover on that side, and all the rockers were going, and no rockers had lash in them when the valves were closed, so I doubt its a flat cam. My smog is coming up, and I have to figure this out quick. Thanks
