Short block is done. Heads and intake have been ported and polished. Going to try to put it back in the car this weekend. What mods should I do next?? I have the 87 ECM and the coil also. I guess I should'nt jump the gun and see how the install goes first. I cant wait to get it running though and get started on some mods. Nothing for the strip just to play around with on the street. Thanks

Do one step at a time. It will save you heart burn in the long run. I am sure you have upgraded the fuel pump and FPR (?)

What is your goal for this car/project?

*Edit*
PS: If you don't yet have some sort of scan tool, do that first.

Brian- I would replace at a minimum the passenger side exhaust manifold with either an ATR or Poston. If you have the money replace both exhaust headers and the entire exhaust system with a high flow system such as a Hooker. There are other brands as well. The fuel pump and a hot wire kit are necessary as well. I am finishing my hot air which will easily be a low 12"s at the track. But I do not drag race at all. I as well as Jerryl can point you in the right direction-Ask three times before you open your wallet. I made the mistake of not defining my goals and the end result was blowing up a new engine out of stupidity. It has taken me two and a half years in order to get where i want to go. PM either Jerryl or I and we can help as well. For pure technical advise-GNTTYPE.org. Scott Keller is on top of it. Brad

front mount i/c

I am going to be selling a one of a kind set up.It is from innovative turbo.
They only made two of these set ups and they were for a t.v. program.the turbo is an innovative stage 3,it is suppose to be like a ta-49.It comes with all the plumbing, clamps and front mount. It is made to fit right in with no fabrication. It will definitely be a nice mod for your 84/85 car.I am going with a stage 2,so I no longer need this set up.Thanks Ray

The post from TBFAN is noise. You can't go faster without the basics. Fuel delivery and exhaust are first. Do your homework and ignore posts like TBFAN.
Spend alot of time on GNTTYPE.org and search the old posts. This website is infected with newbies giving clueless advice. PM me for real info or e-mail me. Brad

no need to get all worked up bradly

are you certain he doesn't all ready have those basic mods

Thanks for the replies fellas. sorry I couldnt get back to you sooner. I am trying to get my stock car finished. We have practice this weekend. Anyway, I pick my motor up tomorrow. I have heard a lot about the walbro pump. So I will get that coming. Do you have any links for the exhaust so I can look into that also?
As far as my goals: I am taking advice from you and I guy I talked to that lives in Florida (cant remember his name but have his # still). I am going to "take one step at a time." No plans to take it to the track. This may sound odd but I just want it to be as fast as it can be with some basic mods that you guys are mentioning. I have no plans to switch it over to a IC car. I have some cash in the back pocket and I am scouting for an 86 or 87 and plan to trade or sell my firebird. My long term goals are to have one of each. I think the 84's will be a great collectors item in the future.
I will upgrade the fuel pump and exhaust and look forward to some more advice from all of you. Thanks again, Brian

p.s. Jeryl, where is a good place to get the scantool, pump and regulator. I have a few regulators that we use on the stock car will these work or is there something special about gn's? Thanks

Here are a few b-4 pics. Let's see how she turns out when it is done. How rare is this leather option on the seats? I was surprised on how good of shape these are in.

Nice Ride!

Welcome to the board!
The 84's were the only one's with the seats. Look Great.
Your on the right track.
Upgrade the fuel pump, adjustable fp regulator, hot-wire-kit, scan tool.
Need a good boost gauge, KNOCK gauge, fuel pressure gauge.
Since you have the 87 ecm, you can go: t-link, scanmaster, directscan for data.
For the street I'd go with a good alcohol injection system.

As stated before: The "Leir Siegler seats" were only installed in the 84 GN's (GN's only I belief?)
Your seats are worth quite a bit in the condition they are in. People will steal the car just to get those seats!

WTF  Relax dude, you can say what you have to say without insulting others or just take it behind the scene like PM’s or emails. TBFAN was just mentioning something that he has on his car that made the biggest difference performance. He is stepping up to play with the big boys now therefore he was just saying that has the set up for sale. I understand everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it doesn’t give you the rights to insult someone. I guess for some people, their head swells too quickly.

Can you help me with some REAL INFO on how to get my hot air to run 14's . lol

Just my $.02

I am only giving real info to help a guy with a stock setup. Turbo upgrades without the basic upgrades equals a blown engine. Been there and done it. I threw $4000 down the toilet with ideas such as this. The idea of putting and upgraded turbo on an 84 stock engine is pure stupidity. Just want to point out bad ideas. Brad

Brad, I understand your good intentions. You don't want others to go though what you have gone through. When you insult someone and put your self on a pedal stall, you are making your self like a D!ck, I am sure that is not your intentions. I am the same way as you when it comes to helping others but I try not to offend anyone unless it needs to be brought up. If you look at your self, TBfan, Brian and my self, we are all from IL and more importantly, we all love Turbo Buicks. We all should be sticking together not bashing each other.

Now that being said, I just want to say sorry to Brian about coming on to your post and expressing my opinion about few comments others made. I understand that you are restoring a hot air. If you need anything from a small 7mm screw to building a stage motor, I will be more than glad to help you out. I have plenty of hot air cars and IC cars on hand. I have been playing around with Turbo Buicks for about 18yrs. If you need to get a hold of me, my cell is 630-965-1987 or email wikedv6@hotmail.com.

For the record the lear seats were also in the 82 GN's

I also had an 84/85 Desiner series with Lear Seigler seats up front, the Turbo six emblem was not in color like it's for the GNs but it is the same exact seat. The rear seats were just cloth, no leather middle section.

I also have an 85 designer series with the same style front seats, but it's all done in cloth no leather. I thought It was pretty intersting.

Get it running and tuned as it is now with some kind of scan tool.. Then hot wire with a 340, adj fpr, Gauges to monitor what is going on such as boost, fuel psi, oil psi, a/f ratio, tach, water temp. Some of those gauges can be eliminated depending on scan tool used. Then if you want to go faster i suggest hooker cat back exh with test pipe, pass header, uppipe, a 3 inch dp. If you want to still go faster and stay hot air get alky with the correct chip and fuel and crank the boost. If you want i/c then do so with the correct fuel. Want to go faster yet and stay h/a get your turbo hogged out to a 33 spec or do the modification to a 49 or 60 series with the welded adapter. I/C get a 49 or 44 or 60 series with correct fuel req. Just hunt around for sales on parts as each dealer charges a diff price for comparable parts. HTH
