what mods for a 2004r

I have a 1988 tranny from a V8 Monte Carlo. I am going to swap this tranny into my 66 Nova after it has been rebuilt. It is a high 12 car NA and a mid 11 on spray. I need to know what to get for this tranny to make it last. I dont want to be rebuilding it all the time, but once a year is ok for me though. I would have bought a GN tranny but they are tooo expensive and then will it last????? What is different from a Monte 2004r and the GN? Anyone got a list of things to do to this tranny to make it last? Thanks Mike
