I wonder if some leaks aren't because they get a bit overfilled. Even with the bigger 52 size filter (never use ac) 6qts shows above the fill mark. Putting it at that or just a little below has just about eliminated oiling the garage floor and it still has the rope seal.

My leak is defiantly valve gaskets. We checked the rear main and it was dry. Then noticed fresh wet oil on the back of the motor by the heads.

I have about 3 qts of vr1 on the shelf and zddp from Kirban’s that I forgot about. So I’ll get some more and put that in there. Didn’t mean to get everyone all worked up on oil convo again.

On my BMW motorcycle forums when I had an old airhead, I swear guys would get into fist fights over what’s best. I put all different types of oil in that bike and had about 280000 miles on it after putting in about 75k myself in about 10 years. I replaced rings, gaskets and a rear main seal in that motor and that was it.

Yeah, I thought some guys were going to get band on here over their favorite vodka and whisky. Insult their wives or girlfriends all you want but not their boos. :D

Haha. I was on that thread.

Anyway. Thanks everyone for their input. Gonna give the vr1 with 1/2 zddp additive and the Wix filter. If it blows up, I’ll let you know. :-)

10/30 any oil.
Synthetic is good as it deals with heat better than conventional oil

I beat on mine for 210k while pulling my boat half the time before I spun a bearing. Mobil 1 10w30 from it's first oil change in 1987.

Seems there is a split between conventional VR1 and Mobile 1 synthetic. I am planning to get her out tonight for an oil change and have a case of both. After a couple drinks, I'll make a choice.

When you take her out tonight, treat her like a lady...Don't Beat Her.. acohol make you do mysterious thing . I would like to know what brand oil you choose afterwards.??

cheers put the mobile one in your newer cars and pour that vr1 in the black car...dont spill your drink :p

VR1 20-50
With stands the 100 degree heat in the summer without thinning too much and doesn't turn to molasses in the NY winter
Plus has a 1400 ppm of zinc.. $7.99 qt. Hard to beat

I have 10w30. I don’t drive it in the winter. I’m excited to get it out of the garage today. Nice here. Is that enough zddp? I have additive too.

As long as its Vr1 it will have the same zinc amounts through different weights, i run thicker 20/50 because my cars have race bearing clearances , you can run a half of bottle of zddp every other oil change.
Im not promoting the use of Valvoline only, this is a very opinionated subject , its just what ive been using for decades..
There are many other great brands out there with high zinc or no zinc so you can add it your self.

With the Mobil-1 10w-40 oil pressure is 70+ on a cold startup. With 20w-50 its gotta be ready to blow the valve covers off.
