I have a 1980 3.8 turbo buick that needs to have the turbo rebuilt.I see many kits available but am not sure which one I need, my turbo sounds like the bearings are bad. Also how hard is it to rebuild,I am fairly good with mechanical stuff, can it be done at home.My turbo is the original unit on my car if that makes a difference.Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I ordered a rebuild kit from G-Pop-Shop and did mine at home with basic hand tools. It was easy. Just make sure everything is super clean when putting it back together. But you will have to send it out anyway to get it properly balanced. I had to send mine to G-Pop-Shop to do it because no one local would. Supposedly some big rig repair shops can balance them but l called a few with no luck.

Well I see you're from Canada so things may get a little pricey for you, but if you go to the "how to" section at the top of this section there's a full write up on how to overhaul the turbo. I can also tell you that Gpop shop can get you the right parts for around $100 US.:)
