I was wondering what brand scan tool I should get. I see people use a ScanMaster. Can anyone tell me which one is good? Thanks!!

Scan tools...

can get pricey, depending on how far you want to go w/tuning. The scan master, the later versions, are expandable. you can combine the data-logger to it and an lc-1. and you have a killer of a scan tool. All items, purchased brand new, will run a little over $600.00:eek: I believe. You can check w/Mike at fullthrottle for details, or do a search on the data-logger updates.

nope not over priced at all. I would go with a powerlogger with and LC-1. The advancement in tunning tools is out of control. i dont ever want to go back to a turbolink.

I agree 100% Driving blind vs. driving with your eyes open. I like to see.

i'm sorry but everything is way over priced...it sucks...i understand why,but still , i think along the line of if things were a little cheaper i would buy more and vendors would sell more...my .02c fwiw.....

Over priced?

First of all to answer your question about what scan tool to purchase. Hands down it would be the ScanMaster. If you are going to tune your car to get maximum results you have to know what the car is doing. The ScanMaster will let you know these parameters. Now for the good part, you can actually expand the capabilities of the ScanMaster by purchasing the PowerLogger. This will update the capabilities of the ScanMaster AND allow you to run a laptop in the car if you wish. Also it will let you add a LC-1 wideband O2 sensor and EGT if you want to go further with your tuning. Just depends on where you are and where you want to go.

Now to answer the question on these tools being over priced. First lets go back and look at old technology. The DirectScan and turbolink. How much are they to purchase today? Now the PowerLogger comes out with twice the capabilities and no competition for $249.00 with free software upgrades for life. Check out other scan tools for other vehicles on the market today. I believe that you will find they are more expensive. Plus these are 20 plus year old cars and we have a vendor who actually takes their time and resources to develop modern day technology to expand the capabilities of our cars. When I show my friends this technology they are blown away and cannot believe that my car is the old and is still in the top of its game. Seems kind of cheap to me.

Scanmaster overpriced? no way. I figure if I don't have it and the SES light comes on, then it would cost me $70 a pop to get a shop diagnosis. In that regard alone, it's paid for itself. In addition, it has O2, and KR, and just general monitoring/tuning capabilities.

If you're a racer, then a faster update option may be better, but I feel a scanmaster is a must for the daily driver who works on hos own car.

If you purchase the powerlogger they will give you an upgraded chip for the scanmaster and the updates are much quicker. I believe it is 18 frames per second.
