Guys it looks like I'm going to get back into Buicks after a 7 year abscence. I know some things have changed as far as some of the technology. When I got out it was Direct Scan that was the big deal at the time. But from what I understand that is no longer made. I always used a Scanmaster in my cars. Very handy. I've read some about the Powerlogger which is used in conjunction with the Scanmaster in some way I beleive

What do you guys recommend I get for proper diagnostic/tuning work? I know I need a Scanmaster at a minimum. TIA.

Powerlogger with a scanmaster is the way to go for sure. ;)

Your not biased are you.:D I see you also have the MAF T Pro in your sig. I was looking at that piece. Looks like a very nice piece. Expensive but nice. I don't really need it at this point. The car is totally original and stock. So I've got other things to do first. But a boost gauge and scan tool are tops on the list. Along with the fuel pump and afpr and kn. Blah, blah, blah. You know how it goes. Does the PL plug into the ECM and then the Scanmaster into the PL and then a laptop into the PL also? Is that basically how it works? Thanks.

Thats it! Pretty cut and dry. You can go to fullthrottletech.com and download the software. I could send you a log for review. You can teach yourself to navigate, load/save file etc.etc.

+1 for powerlogger

+10 for support

+10 for buying anything from FTspeed

What would be a good chip? The car has stock type MAF. I know I will go with Alky also. Seems like most on here with alky are running a TurboTweak. I've read a little about them but don't know much. When I do my spring cleaning I might just go ahead and replace the injectors also. The car has 185,000 miles and although it runs fine I'm not sure I would trust those injectors after this amount of time and mileage. No reason not to replace them if I'm doing the pump also.

Is the TurboTweak good for later on when you do bigger upgrades like Turbo, Intercooler, Motor, etc? In other words can you upate it or does it need to be sent back to the person that makes them?

Turbo tweak chips work great. Most peeps here run them and have great results. Me, I run a extender pro chip from fullthrottle to take full advantage of my Translator pro.
What ever way you go, both TT and FT chips have user adjustable settings that give you flexability. If you were to add say a new turbo, you may just be able to add the extra fuel you need with the chip user adjustments. ;)

I am contemplating the same question...can you use powerlogger and a laptop as a scan tool? IE can I use it to change the setting on my turbotweak chip? I know it can capture a "run" allowing you to analyze what happened, but does it also show the information in real time?

Scantools (no scantools) can make adjustments for you. They scan(too).
Your adjustments to your TT chip will remain the same. But you'll have a ton more data to use so as to make the correct adjustments.

Yeah got that, I know I have to change it...what I'm saying is can I use it to monitor LV8 etc while car is off to see what I'm adjusting.

Yes. Much like Direct scan did, you can see the entire BLM table and int. values on the data screen.

scanmaster 2.1

is this the newest scanmaster for buick turbo scanmaster 2.1?

Powerlogger requires an upgrade of the Scanmaster to version 2.2

Usually the Scanmaster upgrade chip is included with the Powerlogger.
