I am going to be tearing my motor down seeing that it locked up last week. The question is what should I put in it or what would you guys recommend I put in it while I am rebuilding it!! The mototr is pretty much stock as far as I can tell. I am going to put forged pistons in it for sure, but what bearings should I put in it? You guys know of a good cam as well? Basically What would you guys recommend for a good reliable street car with plenty of power:biggrin: Oh yeah and where can I get an upgraded turbo, I am pretty sure mine is toasted now after it was glowing:eek: there is tons of play in it. Thanks in advance!!!

Would be good to list you performance goal and budget so the experts can give you the right advice/feedback.

well....

That might help just a bit!!! I would like it so I can drive the car around daily I guess you could say and try to push it down in the 11's to 12's, as far as budget goes well thats for the wife to decide:rolleyes: No but really maybe around $2500 at the moment if I sell a few of my cars maybe more:D I just want something reliable and fun to drive around but when the oppertunity arises I want to have plent of power to go with it;) Does that help at all?

Pretty much stock!!

Not to many mods at all, pretty much stock under the hood. I have a upgraded Walboro fuel pump and a hotwire kit to go with it. I have a 2 1/2 inch exhaust, a Bosch 237 fuel presure regulator, and a cold air intake and I think that is pretty much it!

Turbos always glow after a hard run. It's normal. I've had mine to where it would light up the engine bay at night.

If you're not looking to go faster than 11s, a stock rebuild with stock parts is fine.

JEs are nice but pricey.

If they still offer the TRWs for our cars, those work well. You will want to use different pins. The TRWs came with heavy pins to make them match the weight of our stock pistons so balancing was not a necessity. A lighter pin will make it a little more reliable at high revs.

Speed Pro rings are pretty much the standard.

If you plan on pushing it beyond 11.0, a girdle is nice but not necessary.

Getting rid of the casting flash in the valley with a dremel is free and will eliminate any potential stress cracks from forming.

Small cam from a 206 to a 212 will work nice.

Double roller timing chain.

Stock steel shim headgaskets if you can find them. If not, the felpro turbo gaskets. Be sure to get the turbo gaskets.

ARP rod, main, and head bolts.

Melling standard or high volume pump kit.

Oil control cam bearings.

GM lifters

All that ..........

Another dumb one from me!!!

Stupid questions but what about the turbo?? And also are the wristpins floating pin or pressed fit in these motors???

Pressed pin.

The "standard" bolt on turbo upgrade is the TA33 although you can send your stock turbo out and have any wheels put in it up to a TA62. The 33 flows about double the factory CFM and will take you deep into the 12s and spool like stock.

So???

The TA33 Turbo is different then the stock turbo?? The turbo I have on the car right now has a tag that says Garrett TB0330 so I take that is stock?

The TA33 is much larger flow wise. Externally identical to stock. I'm not sure what the stock one is supposed to say but I don't think the tag in question means anything.

So who would you guys recommend to get a new TA33 turbo from?? And what is the ball park on something like that?

Send your core to Limit Engineering.
Around $950 + shipping.

The TA33C turbo is a stock turbo machined out and a TA49 compressor housing installed. Send your your stock turbo to either Limit Engineering or Precision Engineering for the upgrade. Flow will go from around 390 CFM to 700 CFM. Your wallet will be around $950 lighter. Been there and done it. Take care. Brad

JACK COTTON has a very nice sale on turbo's right now, you should call him, get a new unit for maybe 50 bucks more that will flow better. Just my .02
My car has a stock bottom end w/ bolt ons and alky 11.90's per gtech. I have a te44 would love a new bb turbo if i could afford it.
