My brother is blistering the 9" slicks all the way down the track. He's having the frame notched next week, and I'm trying to find out what the best sized rim and tire is to take advantage of the notching. Looking at a 9 or 10 inch rim, but not sure on the backspacing. 10" rim with 5" backspacing and 0 offset? He's cruising through the traps at around 133 without a bunch of tuning, probably looking at 135+ once its dialed in. He's crossing the traps at close to 6000 rpm (full roller motor). 28" tires or should he step up to 29" tires? Any input or experience would be greatly appreciated.

15 x 10" 5 " BS.

I have Weld 15 X 10 5.5" (actually 5.25") 28 x 10" tire, fits great. Actually I use a 1/4" spacer for breathing room. Not even close with rolled fenders.

Thanks, he has a similar setup to you. 70q, 224/224 etc

He's having troubles keeping the back planted. He has the HR bar, but the rear drops on launch and then bounces back up. It not uncommon for him to do 2 wheelies on one launch. He launches, comes out of the hole good, but the backend unloads, front tires come down and then back up. Pulling high 1.4+ 60' times with tubular control arms. He's going to change shocks this winter and see if that helps any.

Ok, I've got one vote for 10" with 5" backspacing and one with 5.5" backspacing.

He has adjustable shocks. He's gone from soft to hard in the back as well as soft to hard in the front and every variation inbetween. He may not have enough tire to keep the back from unloading when the front tires are in the air.

Its going to depened on how serious the notch is. If its a heavy notch... by this I mean the frame is cut all the way to the back side of the frame.. then the 5.5 bs will fit. Some hammering of the inner well will have to be done.

On a medium notch... like only half of the frame is removed, a 5 in bs. will work well. The outer wheel well lip will have to be massaged.

You can use a 5.5 in BS wheel in this instance too, but as above, the use of spacers will be neccessary.

Remember that when you get to splitting hairs on fitting wheels this close , some other problems may arrise. Like finding the rear or body not to be centered.

I have currently moved to a 5.5 in BS wheel with a 1/4 in spacer. It fits better in my combo(Phoenix 28.5x10.5), but the 5 in BS with the MT 28x10.5 used to be a perfect fit until i went with the bigger slick. :)

Thanks guys! 1fastv6, I sent the links you posted above to the guys that are doing the notching about 2 weeks ago, so that's the type of notching they will be doing. They're a pretty high end chassis fab shop.
