With a 44 you shouldn't even need a converter.
I'd look elsewhere to spend the money like a good chip with quick spooling code etc. especially for the green stripes.
Perhaps the quick spooling boost controller would be in line as well like the RJC valve.
Cheaper and just as effective with a 44.
Assuming you have a good stock D5 in the car.
Not worth pulling the tranny in and out for one either.
I daily drove my PTE51 for 2 years with a D5 and some quick spool code in the translator system and BSTC controller. It worked fine.
I waited until I had to rebuild the tranny to do a 3K stall converter.
Just my .02 on da subject.
If you do get one, as you stated, 2800 or 3K is all you would need.
