I bought a TE-60 turbo and it come with a stock D-5 conv loosened to stall at2800.

I'm going to be putting in a fresh mildly built trans this spring and don't want to take a chance with this used converter. Would a 3200-3300 be to much?? I was thinking of going higher with the stall if I'm going to buy a new converter. Do it once be done.. and have some room for future growth. What would be the down side to going to high since 2800 is what is recomended??

My new mods with the converter and trans will be 60lb motorons TT chip and a THDP.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks!!!
Tony

3200 stall would be the highest I would go given all the information you have given.

In the future you could run a pretty large BB turbo with that stall yet it will still work okay with the 60.

If I wasn't planning on upgrading the turbo any time soon I'd probably stick with a 3000 stall which would be optimum for you, single disk Vigilate '0' pump perhaps.

When a stall range is given.... is that based on the mods you have??? does the tranny play into it at all??? I was thinking about bidding on a brand new Coan converter (e-bay) never beeen used. It's stalls around 3200-3300
Thanks!!!!

I have to agree with salvageV6. I have similar mods, and I'm going through a "performance" rebiuld as we speak. Talk to Bill at West Coast Converters, he did me up with a 3000 stall, that flashes to 3200. For your tranny rebuild, I highly recommend Brian Hofer, here on the board. He and Bill are great guys that addressed all of my questions. And lord knows there were aaallloootttt, right Brian. :D
If you can wait to know more, I "should" have my car back together in early March. I'm adding 60lb injectors and a TT chip also.

Hi, Bret
If you don't mind me asking what did that converter cost you???? I really wanted to go with Hofer for my tranny build, but couldn't pass up the deal I got on a tranny locally.. fresh built from Janis in Akron, OH. However, the tranny I pull out will someday go to Brian for a full rebuild!! :D

I'll check out West Coast Converters. Keep me posted on your rebuild Bret!!
Thanks!!

Converter was $521 to my door. Not shure what Brian charges now, his prices were going up in Jan. 08, but rebuild was $1750 for me with some options. Like you, I only wanted to do this once. Brian's tranny's are good into the 10's from what I've been told from a few racers. I'm not planning on going that wild, but I wanted a strong trans. I'll keep you posted on the "updates". I have quite a few being done at the same time. Wish me luck.

I just responded to your other thread.

Just for the sake of FYI, check out Len Freeman for the transmission. I have his trans, and love it. He also paired me up with precision industries for my converter.

I have the vigilante 9.5 inch single disk Lock up set at 3200. I run the PT-61 turbo, and have no problems spooling. Actually the car runs like a mad man down the street.

Good luck with the build, Let me know if you have any questions.
