Hey guys,

I'm seriously considering selling my 95 heads and cam Z28 for a T-type.

I was wondering if there are any problems or other things I should look for on any stock and modded cars I consider buying?

Thanks!

you might want to stay away from a heavily modded street car if the the bottem end hasent been built up (main caps) and so on these cars are approaching 20 years old i would look for somthing mostly stock then you can build from there depending on your goals

go to GNTTYPE.ORG and there is a checklist for buying a GN/TR I used that when I bought my car.

The check list on GNTType.org is great. If you have back issues of GMHTP, they wrote some articles on the problem spots w/ the G-body cars. You might want to do as much reading as possible to familiarize yourself w/ these cars.

Good luck,

Steve.

I agree 100%. I bought my first GN in 6/04 and I learned alot from the members here, but I wish I read that article. The low rust is a good thing to look for. i bought this one because te owner sent me pictures of underneath the car and it is basically rust free which was a good sign it was garaged.

If you can, bring a scantool. I got home(after a 700 mile trip from Michigan) and I hooked up the Turbolink and found sensors way out of spec. When I put them(TPS, IAC count) in spec, the car wouldn't idle. Of course you won't see everything, but a scantool should be brought if possible. Also the O/D wasn't working. Check the RPMS at 60 mph. They should be just over 2K if I remember correctly. It was a cheap fix, but it might have given me opportunities to knock the price down more.

They had a similar article on F-bodys as well, sadly, I don't have the G-body edition.

Good reading, gives me a lot to look for. Thanks!

After finding the car you want, make sure that it has a clean title and is filled out properly if this is so required by your state. I had this problem when I bought an out of state car through a third party seller. The car had to set in my driveway for three months until the paperwork was finally collected and properly registered. Make sure all paperwork for the car is in order !!
