Ive decided its time to upgrade. Im interested in what turbo everybody else is running on their cars....hot or cool.

I am currently running at Limit Eng TA-33.
 
TA66 and loving it. It was kind of lazy on the 3.8L with a 2,800 stall but on the 4.1L and 3,000 stall it spools almost as good as stock.
 
GT 6152 on a stock stall. Lag isn't bad at all but I am picking up an orange stripe this week.

Im considering a change. How do you guys like the TE44 ? Is spoolup decent ? Guess is has no probs fitting under the hood in the stock loc'n in our cars.

Boostmaster - how does your 49 spool...prob similar to my 33 ?

Dont know what to go with lads...my tranny is built and the MSD 50's are enroute to prep the air/fuel situation. Any suggestions ?
 
I run a TA-49. Spools the same as my stocker did. I have always run an intercooler so I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference from hot air setup. Stock tranny & stall. I know if I floor it from a dead stop at a stop light, it takes about half a car length out to start roasting the tires uncontrolably. :D

My 44 had fitment probs but it might have been because it was clocked for a v2 intake setup. The comp housing hit the fuel rail so i had to shim up the turbo mounting bracket.

I modified a TA49 on my dads 85 recently. Pulls much better than the stocker. It has a converter that was supposed to be 2800, but stalls around 2300 and no higher. It spools decent, i have the pasenger header off for now getting a big crack welded. I hope that helps the turbo spool and the converter flash higher. I also just changed the valve springs and hope that this wakes the car up a lot. If so ill report back with some track times soon :cool:

I've got pictures somewhere. Being a "TA" turbo, it's in the 87 compressor housing so from the outside it's identical to other turbos like a TA49.

Question for you guys running the TE44. Why not run the TA49 which is the identical turbo in the smaller 87 compressor housing that will require no mods to fit on the hotair. They're rated within 10hp of each other. I know you don't go to the trouble of fitment problems for 10hp.
 
cause the bigger housing looks meaner. :D

idk really, the TE44 was advertised to me as an upgrade to stock or ta49's...heard a lot of hype and went with it, enjoying it too!
 
When i was looking for a turbo i got a 44 for 200 bucks plus 275 for a rebuild which gave me a new turbo with a 1 year warranty for 475, i could not find used 49s for that price at the time. Just timing i guess.
 
Fitment probs

Are you guys telling me that I should expect some fitment probs if I buy a TE44 ? If so - I will just stick with a TA49 - gotta agree with Cool84 on the fitment vs 10 HP issue....its bad enough as it is !

Just got a call yesterday - my 50's are in :D

Would anyone be interested in my Limit Eng TA33 ?
 
I'd be intertested in your TA-33, let me know what you are willing to sell it for, also just need to know how many miles on the turbo, condition, etc...... thanks
 
Ta-33

The turbo has less than 2,000 mi on it - unfortunately my car is a bit of a garage queen. Ive had the entire suspension apart for a rebuild. I paid $825.00 USD for it from Limit Engineering. No shaft play - like new cond'n.

Id probably let it go for $650 plus shipping. Anyone interested let me know - ill be posting it on the for sale section soon.
