that is absolutly amazing!

I wonder if this could be filmed on a buick? this could be clues to better valve train setup.....

Awesome video!
Smokey Yunick stated that the biggest benefit to raise RPM is to lighten up the valve, springs, retainers and keepers. Weight reduction from the rockers, lifters and pushrods did not significantly increase rpm, before valve float appears.
Can you say "Beehive"?

I picked up..

over 600rpm going from the junk springs that were supplied on my Champ heads, to a set of beehives!

There goes another TSM secret.. Smokey knew more back in the day than people realize..

I don't even know how to spell TSM;) , but Smokey is still the man .......
Afteral, we are dealing with the same technology he dealt with .........

WOW!
What was the shift RPM?

That may well

have been another "secret". But, the really fast guys found a way to get around the "24psi" rule! :D :D

"What was the shift RPM?"
Actually, it was on my stage engine in the street car. I was seeing some fall off at 6200+. Changed to beehives, and saw a faster rev curve, and no problemo to shift at 6800.
I think the limiting of rpm was due to the junk that came on the heads. The change in how well the engine rev'd came from the lighter valvetrain. Comp claims that using the bh's w/ titanium retainers was approx the same performance gain as using titanium valves w/ conventional springs/retainers. I had them set up @140/375# area/218-212 hyd roller, the good T&D rockers.

wow oh wow this is going in my favorites, thank you for the post!

Now im sitting here looking at the box of comp 979s I have sitting here thinking, if only I had the tool from Kirbans Id be out there right now. Since the motor is in the chevelle and it dont have AC, the passenger side valve cover will come off real easy lol.... Anyone got a valve spring tool I can borrow for a week?

And now I open the box of 979s and only 4 out of the 12 have spring dampeners inside them???!??! Whats this all about are they supposed to be internally dampened or not?
