I've heard of the Baldwin filters, but only on here. Is this something that AutoZone could order for me?
Almost certainly "no". Baldwin filters are more likely to be sold at big-rig truck parts distributors & service centers.

The Baldwin B35S replaces the Delco PF52 (same thread & housing size), but I feel the Baldwin is of much better build quality & construction.

If you have an RJC "Biggie" filter adapter, then use the Baldwin B9 ... it's about 20-25% longer than the Delco PF24 commonly specified for this application.

Awesome!! Just found them at a local big truck supply place..$3.79!!!! Thanks everyone, and I guess I'll go with 10w40 instead of the 20w50 Syntec..

I was told for quite some time by several "experts" that the WIX filters were the way to go for good filtering and a good anti drainback valve.
After using any and all wix filters that would fit my 86 (biggy adapter) and 87 (standard) I could NOT find a single WIX that had what I would consider a working anti drainback valve.
What I mean by that is, after the car sits a week, it should start up with virtually instant oil pressure and no lifter clatter.
The WIX filters couldn't accomplish that.

Nor could many of the other so-called premium brands (mobile1 stp, etc etc)
Finally followed a suggestion and tried baldwin filters on my two GN's. Whalla!! they do have an anti drainback valve that actually works! some of the best filter media on the market, and because they are used heavilly in the commercial market, they're built like tanks!!
Dave, I also use Baldwin with a special racing Penzoil 25 - 50 wt. I also run more clearance on the rods and mains (.0023") so this wt. works well. I get this oil and the filters from a company that builds race motors and they swear by both products. The oil has a tacky feel to it and the filter has a high burst case as well as the anti-drain back. (I have not see this oil for sale anywhere and the filters are also hard to find).

Jeff Rand
