What would NASCAR'S run in the 1/4??

Interesting question. Probably have to do one of those HP to 1/4 mile time converters and assume little traction. I do know a F1 car would blow it away in the 1/4. Read once they run 8s in the 1/4!

If its a short track car, they'll have a very short rear end, higher than a 4.11 (a superspeedway car will have a very tall gear and wouldn't do so well). I'd guess these cars would be in the high 11's, low 12's. 700 hp or so (?) and similar weight (minimum of 3400 for Nascar). Traction would be the main issue, even with the Goodyear slicks. I don't think they launch very well. ;)

I can't remember where I saw it, but mid 11's was actually run in a (then) Winston Cup car. Didn't specify if it was a Superspeedway, road course, short track or intermediate car.

Pretty damned respectable considering that's not what it's set up for!

It was either road&track or car&driver back in 86. They used Tim Richmond's #25 m/c aerocoupe. I want to say it was mid-11's.

Obviously a short track car would run much better in the 1/4 than a Talladega machine. Seems like I heard one of the drivers say one time that a Bristol car was a 10 sec ride.

ok..i am gonna unload.
1. global warming is a farce....that was a made up bunch a crap by pinko environazis who just want to tell other people how they should live. in fact studies have shown that the "warming " is a cycle that the earth has gone thru many times in addition to various ice ages and such. get up to date
2. monetary policy...you think this is not cyclical? we are paying for the clinton years. these things don't happen overnight either, what is done today won't shake out till later, if you think that Allen Greenspan is doing a bad job, consider that he was ther when we were doing great, besides are you a proffesor of econmic issues?...did not think so
3. animal rights? ok, i have the right to eat steak whenever i want.....if god intended animals to have the same rights as us, they would not be below us on the food chain dim wit. I am against mistreatment , but we have gained valuable insight on how to tret diseases and other maladies of the human race, should we use other humans?
I am sick of you liberal, sierra club member pinko commie californians always sticking you freekin .02 cents in every issue. if you don't like america...move to canada
I was just elaborating on how people always misuse the term nascar. and say things like "dem dar NASCARS is way fast"...maybe education should be on your agenda next...we here don't speak in ebonics. Guys like you are the rason i can't ride my motorcycle off rad anymore in NJ, or my quad...even on my OWN property.(it damages the ground)

Though our cars are faster 0-60 due to tranny gear ratios. :)

After looking at the article, I think the 1/4 mile number is fudged. While 130 MPH should equate to a low-mid 10 sec run, the article also mentions that the Nascar Winston Cup car used in the comparison took 6.21 sec to reach 60 MPH! That car was probably lucky to turn in the 12's!

HP wise, the cars are 9 sec cars, but I still doubt one would ever turn even in the 10's. I seriously doubt one has ever been taken on a real drag strip so all the numbers will be estimated by HP, weight, etc. Can't believe everything you read. ;)

Well no I am not a professor of economics. But I do have a Bachelors in Finance, so since you brought it up lets talk monetary and fiscal policy.

Monetary policy is based on the credit worthiness of the US Government. The basic indicator of how good the credit of the US is the 30 year bond. The higher the rate on a US bond the more risk there is to get paid back. Now mind you US bond interest rates are rather low in terms of time. Say the last 50 years for example.

Fiscal policy is ( I will use small words and ideas here so you can stay with me ) how the government spends money. A fiscal policy of spending more money than you have coming in ( federal spending vs incoming tax revenue) is called deficit spending. That is bad. It would be similar to you buying a lot of Buick parts on a credit card and only making the minimum monthly payments on the card.

A fiscal policy of balancing the federal budget against tax revenues is a good thing. You dont spend what you dont have.

Now here is how bad fiscal policy can affect monetary policy.

If your finance say a war for example, it costs money. If you dont have the money to finance the war you have to borrow it in the form of bonds or T bills. Because you the government has to borrow the money there is a certain amount of risk that anyone takes when they loan you the government money. Because of that risk the government has to offer bonds with a higher interest rate in order to make them attractive to buyers.

Now the buyer of these bonds will look at all factors. Such as debt load, state of the economy and so on.

Now since your fiscal policy is not very sound because you have to borrow money to fight a war it affects your monetary policy. You have to pay a higher rate of interest on your loan in order to get the money. Now this monetary policy affects your fiscal policy . This is part of the cycle you alluded to but I will be more precise.

Now that you had to pay a higher interest rate on your bonds that has to be taken into account in your fiscal budget for the following year. You have to pay the interest on the loan. It also cost you more money to borrow that money because your fiscal policy was to take a credit card and buy all of your parts for tanks and you have to pay a 20% interest rate on it.

Now back to Bill Clinton. Clinton was the only president in the the last 16 years that actually reduced the federal deficit. That is fact. Because he did that, it made money very cheap to buy. Meaning that the governments credit rating was much better. Which also means that the monetary policy was eased greatly in the form of the prime lending rate affecting the interest rate you pay on a mortgage.

Which also made it very easy for George W Bush to borrow money to finance a war.

This concludes your economics lesson for today.

Now as far as global warming goes do some research on the Kyoto Treaty that George W Bush pulled out of when he became President and you make your own decision.

Animals have rights too. I think they make a great steak.

I am not a liberal as a matter of fact I am a registered Republican. Bush screwed up and he needs to go.

I am not part of the Sierra Club but I do camp in the Sierras and I like trees. I dont hug them though.

You are trying to defend New Jersey?

The reason you cant ride your motorcycle is because there is too much hazardous waste in the dirt. You keep letting barges from New York dump their trash in your back yard. And at least in CA you can find fish in the water that is not full of mercury. I am not so sure about Jersey.

And as far as " Dem dere Nascars is fast " I would not bag too much on rednecks. They were building and driving those cars long before some **** in Jersey decided to hop on the bandwagon and become a self proclaimed expert on them.

Maybe education should not just be on your agenda. Maybe it should be your one and only priority because you sir are full of s h i t.

i am not defending nj,(where you obviously have never been) most of NJ is open farm land, you are thinking of the eastern side and only a small percentage is polluted(just happens to be very polluted)
I have probably forgot more about "nascars" than you will ever know. my point was I think it uneducated to refer to them as "nascars" to me that is like people who call regals "montes". As far as my education....i have you beat i have 3 degrees and am pursuing my masters in business. this just bears down to differences between right and left coast people..... sorry you had to rant, I see where this board has really gone down hill

Take it somewhere else...

Nick and Reggie,

Y'all have taken this thread in a completely different direction and it's gotten ugly. Start a new thread for what you're arguing about if it's that important to you.

BTW, we all figured out what 87gninpa meant by "NASCAR's" and replied. Who cares if it was correct? I've been a NASCAR fan since the mid 80's and it didn't bother me. I'm just trying to answer the man's question.
