I can see it in certain circumstances, like in this case where someone was viciously attacked. Some people commit crimes without malice or unintentionally and that should be taken into account.

On another note, people in this country are "restless" to say the least. A lot has to do with the "elite" getting away with their crimes while the average Joe gets put away years for diddley. Do you think, even for a minute, that Ms Hillary will get any kind of sentence (or even charge) for blatantly violating every law in the books on gov't e-mail policy? Or Lois Lerner? Or how about Reverand Al who still owes us ~ 5 million in taxes? And the beat goes on...

Hammurabi was onto something when he came up with that concept, and pretty much every modern justice system in the world is just a watered down version of Hammurabi's code.

for lesser crimes, fines and/or prison time takes the place of the literal "eye for an eye"- which is as it should be- but they should make the punishments escalate as the crimes get worse.. murderers, rapists, and pedophiles should be left to the mercy of the general populations of prisons and people convicted of capitol crimes should be left at the mercy of the friends and families of the people they killed or whatever.

What burns my butt is the lawyers who make all the money and sue everyone for any reason. If you hurt/kill someone whether you are under the influence of something, YOU did the action and YOU are responsible. Temporary Insanity is not a defense. Common Sense nowadays is not common to most people.m When a robber breaks into a house and gets injured and can sue the homeowner and win for damages,,,, This world is going downhill. Rant over.
