hey guys, i could use some help. Just bought a 87 GN and the car came with some 20 inch wheels that i want to remove asap. I found a set of Cragars from summit racing but are not sure if they fit due to backspacing. Here are the specs on the wheels. For the rear they are 16x8 with a 5.000in backspacing with +13.00mm offset. and for the front 16x7 with a 4.000in backspace with a 0.00mm offset. Any help would be grateful.

Measure both rear BS twice, buy once. The Rev 100s are decent
I have 17*9 w 5in BS on the rear.

Man I don't know how you guys do it. I've whored alot of wheels in my day, but I have no idea how you guys get 5 inch backspacing anything to fit. Every 4.5" BS wheel I've owned just barely allowed my finger to go between the tire and frame. What size tire are you guys with 5" BS running?

well with these rims i have about a half inch of space from the frame. it was really close but good enough. I'm running 275-40-17 and i can fit one finger between the frame and the tire. like i said really close.

Man, I had 17x9's with that exact size nitto drag radial 275-40-17, with 4.5" BS and had the exact same clearance that you mention above. Guess some wheels are just that different.

Current tire size is the same as V6UP's. Now here is something interesting, I installed the Boss 338 from my 71 442 that are 18*9.5 w/5.125 in of BS and a 275/40/18. Talk about a big tire on a Turbo T and they fit the rear also.
A note on the Rev 100 wheels, these cleared my Baer T4 front brake set-up on the 442 with no issues. I tried both the front 17*7 w/4in BS and the 17*9 w/5in of BS.

purchasing centerline competition qualifiers. Wheels are 17" whats the largest backspacing I can get away with ? with out having to worry about rubbing ?

Toddmc66 all I can recommend is measure twice purchase once. Will all 4 be the same size wheel? Are you considering a front brake upgrade in the future?
These all effect BS. If no to all go with my specs above.

I am in the process of choosing the same style steel 17 x 9 but can choose between 5 in or 4.5 back space what do you guys think?

I know you guys are mainly talking about 17's but here's my new Boss 338 wheels. Fronts are 18x8 with a 41/2 in. bs and a 225x40-18 tire and the rears are 18x9.5 with a 5in. bs and a 275x40 -18 tire and I have NO rubbing anywhere and still have right at a 1/2 in, between the tire and frame.
