I just lock it at about 3K rpms while accelerating slowly and then run it up to redline in 3rd, D.

I have a switch to l/u the converter.
so just leave it in "d" and when i hit 3rd lock it up?
what if it goes into o.d.?

you can do that... it won't go into "OD" if not selected. even if you go to the drag strip leave it in "D"...
