i want to buy them in 5 or 10 gallon amounts, is this even something i can do without some kind of permit? i am in nj any help would be nice as i am intending to brew somw "rocket fuel" for my gn (it will freeking fly one way or another:eek: );) thanks

Sherwin Williams should be able to get you a 50 gallon drum - if you need that much. If not they carry it in 5 gallon drums too.

i am more interested in the toluene

does sherwin williams sell this?

a bigger turbo or i/c may be cheaper

with the 2 of them theres no need for octane boosters

i have raised my compression (thin head gasket) and can run 24# on 93 octane (exxon) on a 20 degree street chip with no knock

justa thought :)

Watch

I would watch yourself. Both Toluene and Xylene are on the DEA's watched chemicals list for being of interest to Drug makers. I tried to purchase a 5 gallon drum and the owner of Sherwin Williams all but called the feds on the spot. Just a heads up as you will most likely be asked questions if you do not regularly buy this or have a painting business. I wouldn't be to alarmed however as I'm sure your intentions are pure. :)

Your local Tolulene & Zylene sources

A couple months ago, someone from the DFW area posted a good local source for zylene.

When I spoke with the owner of that Dallas business, he gave some advice about finding a distributor in my own neighborhood:

Look in your yellow pages under "SOLVENTS"

Tolulene and zylene are first and foremost, "solvents"

Take his advice and you'll find an economical local source for your octane recipe :)

Do a search on "Xylene". This topic has been brought up about a million times.

I also agree with REDS HOT AIR. I haven't been able to confirm this yet, but I believe I should be able to run at least 23# on my ME 20* setting and Sunoco 94.

Sherwin Williams

I just bought a 5 gallon container of toluene last Friday at the local Sherwin Williams paint store. I think it was $37 for 5 gallons, list price. I used my employers name and paid cash and got it for $32. They apparently give discounts to bussinesses even though we don't have an account there. It was more than I wanted to pay but I was going to the track the next morning and wanted to try it.

if i remember correctly i could get 22# boost on 93 exxon with the 51 turbo and 20 degree chip (no knock)

Sherwin williams 5 gallons for $25.00

Tell them you are a contractor. They will beat prices so, look for the cheapest first and then go there and tell them what price you can get it for at another place.:)

Worked for me at least:D

i found a chemical supplier

toleune, 55gallon drum $235 i can go pick it up tomorrow. i will need to show my drivers liscense and that is it, Dusa Chemicals in poughkeepsie NY. is this a good deal? i could not find any at home depot or sherwin williams(idiots)

this is very ironic as i had gone to shermin williams today

I live in NJ as well, not sure where in NJ your from but I am in somerset county

the shermin williams said I could get the toluene for 7.45 a gallon
which is like 37 something (dont have a calculator)

just wondering guys
I know people use the alcohol for their kits
but can you put the denatured alcohol in the gas tank and would it be worth it?

I dont have an alky kit yet

Carl

Alky in the tank is not a good idea. It will eat your rubber gas lines and I think your injectors would die also. Im by no means an expert on this but have read up on it. ;)

SO WHICH ONE DO I USE.....

which one is recommend over the other for a stock car or do i use both and mix both.

which is preferred toulene or xylene, or are there certain factors that come in to play when using one or the other.

what is the mix they told me for every 3 gallons add 1/2 gallon of xylene to the tank but what about toulene, do both of these chemicals work the same way or are there differences. my friend turbojorge tolc me that if i was to run a little xylene then i will reduce then knock risks on the motor is this true..

i wanted to know you view on this guys which is preferred.
please get back a.s.a.p. as i want to head out to the shermin williams tommorrow morning being that my friend i fotgot works there so i want to come up on this stuff early tommorrow morning so if someone could back with a reply a.s.a.p.

this would be very helpful any info provided on this topic.

Hey guys, I'm the one from TX that posted on this subject a couple of months ago. The advice above is right on. The company I found here is a chemical company, but Xylene is a solvent, so you can search on both. FYI, I'm paying $17.00 for 5 gal cans. I didn't have to go thru any problems obtaining it, but did drive the GN out there...They had no idea the stuff could be used to mix w/gas. Make sure that you don't buy RECLAIMED. That stuff is recycled, and I've heard there can be sludge in the bottom of the can. (Painters use Xylene/Toluene for thinner & cleaning solvent) Be SURE to add a couple of ounces of Marvel Mystery oil. 1 gal Xylene to 3 gal 93 octaine. Turn up the boost!:D

Attention DE, PA, NJ guys...
I just called my local MAB Paint store today (see info below), and they have 5 gallon containers of Xylene on sale NOW for $19.99 (normally $40!).

M A B Paints
3841 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808

No questions asked. I doubt that they'd deliver... you'd have to pick it up yourself.
