Where can I get a scan tool

I just bought my first 87 Grand National and I don't know anything yet. What exactly is a scantool. Where can I get one and how much do they usually run? It sounds like this should be my first investment. Thanks for your help?

If you have a laptop you might want to check into turbolink or DirectScan.

Just go to the 'parts for sale' forum, on this site, and do a search for SCANTOOL....or OTC 4000e
